That road doesn’t look tough. I think I could drive it with my Subaru Legacy. And those locals won’t talk me out of it either!
There are some people that have taken their Subarus through the whole thing, look it up on YouTube

Someone welded the diff on a Crown Victoria and drove it all over Moab, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

TBH, speaking from my easy chair in suburban CT, I can't say I wouldn't try it- though I would at least want a vehicle with AT tires. (Though I would heed multiple warnings) Are the pictures deceiving? Aside from the steep drop, the road itself seems pretty easy, I'm not sure how he managed to drive off the side. Avoiding a big rock between the wheel tracks maybe?

As to your question, NO, the pictures are not deceiving. Although, the shelf roads look wider than I remember.Tom's (friend) Chevy blazer tires were close to the drop off as were my brother in laws Scout. I was in my CJ-5 so I was good! And I wish I could do it again, but cannot due to health issues but I say everybody needs to do it once!!
