Yes, always assume on a test drive from a dealership the tires are crazy over-inflated, making for a harsh ride, wandering and other possible issues. Often even after prep they are sent out way wrong. The door sticker on my wife's JLU clearly says 37 yet they were inflated to 41.
Similar for each of the JTs I've had - all wrong.
Yup, first thing I check before I test drive a vehicle. If it's too high I ask the salesman to lower it.
Weird they can't even take the time to get this simple thing right.

I've heard they do that to avoid flat spotting tires when sitting on the lot.

Both dash PSI monitors had the tires exact same (38-40 psi)
Tires were also the same (285/70 17 Falken MTs)
Huh, interesting. Yeah, that’s not high enough IMO to give a super rough ride. Weird.

Mine were inflated to 41 psi at the dealership as well.
It’s so the lot attendant doesn’t have to keep filling them up all the time…with them not selling.

The factory ships them at 45 PSI for transport which can include sitting at rail yard marshalling points for extended periods.

Dealership is suppose to air them down to door label spec as part of the taken out of transport lot PDI and for 285's that is 37 PSI.

Doubt the dealership makes a concerted effort to actually keep them over inflated and more than likely are just lazy from not doing the PDI correctly.

My money's on flat spots.
Some tires will, some won't. Never had a factory installed tire on a Jeep do it, but have had replacements flat spot after sitting.
But flat spots are different than a rough ride.
You can tell flat spots as it's an up and down bump as you drive - starting out even on all corners, then getting out of sync as you turn and drive. It literally feels like there's a flat spot on the tire and not rough ride.

I've found that if mine are 2 or 3 psi above the sticker when cool, it's rougher riding - more like feeling every little pebble or pavement expansion joint. These are much more sensitive to pressure change than my others.

Why would they have to unless it remained unsold for 2 years?
I've never had a tire that actually lost pressure in even 18 months.

I was going for a humor point of view, not reality.

Sadly - some of these HAVE set around that long. So maybe it is reality!
Now if this was a Ford lot full of F150s..........

Love mine.
But then, I really liked my hydro blue Overlands as well.

For me, I believe at this point, I still agree with my decision for my personal needs and use (winter will be a tell, snow plow mounting and operation will be a tell as well)

So when you chase one, what gear are you in and how fast is it going?

Uhm…what gear?, I found everything I needed on the rig to tell the sales guy, I’m leaving at 5AM tomorrow morning with a cashiers check made out to the dealership, got it done at my bank this morning. So, I’ll let You know what I’m driving back home end of day tomorrow. Figured this way, I do quite a bit of desert time, so I think JTM will fit just fine. Oh, and it’s going real slow right now(their not selling very many right now) so a perfect time to strike especially itā€˜s the dealership month end tomorrow!
