I don't know the specs or the model but these kind of sold me on the bronze wheels vs going with a polished alum. I bought the "truck" with these on it. They are Rock Trix according to the hub cap. I try not too rub my JT up against to many rocks but it's inevitable that I will. I don't expect the bead area to last too long but I think the wheels look pretty good. I'm not a black wheel guy so finding something I liked was refreshing.

Quick question: What are the lungs that you are using? I’m specifically interested on the height of those ones.

So at the moment I think I'm going to go with Method 701 or 703

I believe the factory Rubicon wheel is 7.5" wide with 0 offset / 4.25 backspace?

I am looking at the Baja Boss 255/85R17 tire. They say rim width is limited to 6.5-8.0"

The 701 and 703 Methods have a 4.75 backspace / 0 mm offset option, but the rim width is 8.5.

So question 1 is - would this match up ok? I have not before run a tire on a rim that is outside the 'approved' width spec.

Question 2 is - Quadratec does list a Method 701 at 7.5" wide, but with 5.5 backspace / 32mm offset option. But wouldn't this sink in more? To accommodate a wider tire, but possibly too much inward distance for a skinny 10" wide tire?

Backspacing/offset always just confuses the daylights out of me.

did you ever get more info on these questions? I get confused easily on BS and offset. Did you buy the Methods?

Let's see em! Help me, and others, decide.

I have looked at (online only none in person close by)
  • Method 701
  • Method 703
  • Fifteen52 Turbomatic
  • Fifteen52 Traverse HD
  • Black Rhino Rumble
  • Black Rhino Baker
  • American Racing AR201
  • Icon Rebound
  • Icon Rebound Pro
  • and anything else - this was just a quick list :)

I like the idea of the Icon Rebound Pro the best. And they are, supposedly, 71.5 bore. It looks to have a solid beadlock option combined with a steeper angle for the valve stem to give better protection. Others seem to have a lower valve stem angle so it sticks out more. The -6mm offset is about the most I would want - I think it equals about a 1" poke with 12.5" wide tires. But - according to Icon's 'visualizer' they seem awful bright compared to others. I'm not a fan of the fake deadlock ring - but the standard Icon Rebound seems to have a darker shade of bronze that looks better.

The American Racing option is pretty sick with it's old school holes - but the offset I think is pretty bad.

So I'm curios to see real world pics of those with bronze wheels. Especially if you have a Sarge Green JT!
Teraflex nomad split spoke bronze. I have 7 of them because they’re so good and I wanted spares. Pretty lightweight as well. I blew a tire off of one and it didn’t get damaged rolling it carefully down the obstacle before swapping in the spare.

Have you seen the MOPAR bronze wheels that come on the 392? They look pretty darn awesome. I do like the super fast air down feature of those teraflex ones though.

I’ve seen the mopar ones, but don’t like the offset. I don’t think big tires would work without rubbing.

Yeah good point. I think the stock rims are only good for up to a 35"

I for one wouldn’t buy any wheels and still need spacers. If I’m buying wheels, they need to fit without spacers.

For sure. I would do the same. It all depends on what future plans you have. I will never go bigger than 35's. I might not even stray away from 33's, we'll see. So stock size for me is just fine. I do like the bead grip option a few of the Method rims have though.

Just asking, but if you’re not going to 37’sor bigger, why switch wheels at all? I’d just keep running stock wheels until they’re trashed, then buy more cheap take offs. You could switch wheels every year and take 5 years to equal aftermarket prices. ,
