I built a bed/cargo partition/plywood/drywall holder for my 80th Anniversary using 80(ish) year old white oak reclaimed from an old barn that my friend had laying around.

The plywood/drywall holder nests behind the cargo partition when not in use using 2 sets of door barricade brackets.

Pretty pleased with the results.

Very cool! I'll be doing a half-assed version of this today. Thanks for the tips, and the stowage-bracket idea is genius.

Thank you to everyone for the positive feedback.

A few of you said you might be interested in buying a set. What would value them at? I might make a few more sets if there is interest.

Thanks again!
what size is the wood. is that a 2x6 or 2x8.

Thank you

So you stained, then applied decals, then lacquered over the vinyl decals?
How are they holding up?
I just ordered a Gobi Mojave and while cleaning out the shed of a house we just bought I found some beautiful Redwood planks. 2x8, 2x6, and 2x4. If your decals are still adhering then I’ll give your idea a shot.

Did some measuring and it looks like Jeep intended it to be two 2x4s stacked back there. I was too lazy to pull the manual out of the glove box. the 2x8 will be 1/4" too tall to line up with the 2x on the wheel wells. Negligible and shouldn't make a practical difference at all.

I just put two 2x4s back there this weekend and they are just enough of a PITA to finagle under the bed rail and into the slot that I don't think I'd want to do a 2x8 personally although it looks much better.

Yes, they indeed planned on you use 3 2x4s, one over the wheel wells and the other two stacked as you said.
A 2x4 has a nominal size of 1.5" x 3.5" so two of them edge-to-edge would be 7" high.
The 2x8 would indeed by 1.5" x 7.25"
But what I'd do is rip the 2x8 down to 7" and then round the edges with my router or a plane.
Easily solved.
The 2 2x4s is easier to handle in a way as you can use 1 as a barrier or 2 to handle sheet goods and 2 pieces is also easier to put into place (especially as you age LOL)
But the single piece looks better.
There's no reason people can't get creative, rip pieces down to fit, square the edges where the two make contact to make it look more like one piece, whatever works.

Just reviewing a few things and figured i would check in, its been holding up better than I expected.

There are a bunch of nics and dings but i will clean it up and put on a touchup spray coat of lacquer a few weeks ago and it looks almost new again. The laquer did what I wanted and kept the decals on no problem. I was debating if I was going to do it again if I would have epoxied it for a harder coat, but lacquer is so easy.
