Installed the insane audio head unit. I took some pics of the install and was going to do a detailed write up but, I found on insane audios forums step by step video directions so there really isn’t a need. I will just share the issues/advice.

I was very impressed with the head unit. Like all things it looks better in person than in pictures. I was impressed with how thin the unit is. Coming from a person that swapped out double din big boxes all my life the unit is very light and thin. All the connectors are very well built and you only need to make 2 wire connections for the install for the reverse camera....kinda.

A good trim removal set helps to get the climate control panel off. Then you only need a Phillips to take the radio out and a star bit to take the A pillar trim pieces to run the gps antenna.

one problem I had, I tested the unit before I buttoned everything up and it was good to go. I went in reverse, no back-up camera. I just had a no signal triangle. I popped the unit back out and double checked all my connections and they were solid. I did some research and found out there is a B+ wire that needs to be included in the wire connection that was omitted from the instruction both written and video. i will attach a pic for others for future reference. The camera works perfect now but you do lose your factory parking line aides...not a bad deal but I knew some were wondering.

Also, I bought this unit for all the apps and to have Apple car play. Upgrading from a 5” screen. I was also excited to have Netflix for the kids for road trips. Well, the google play store for the insane doesn’t support the latest version of Netflix and not available. But, in the forum section on insanes web site they have a link to an older Netflix app. This link worked perfect from the crome browser using the insane audio to download, and now I have Netflix.

it is a new unit and granted, a learning curve for me. I am happy so far with the purchase but need more hands on time and familiarly to give it a better review. If anyone had any questions about the unit or want to know anything let me know I am happy to help.

Is there an extra module to get the parking lines back?
also does the backup sensor still work?

Does the HVAC screen work? Just curious how this works with the standard (not auto) HVAC controls. Example physical fan dial set to speed “1” and the screen set to “5”.

I am not aware of an extra module to get the lines back but if your truck has sensors, there is wiring for that. My truck didn’t have the sensors but they do have wiring for it.

the screen does not change your HVAC settings it just reflects the knob position. If you try to change the setting on the AC screen nothing happens but when you move the dial, the screen reflects the dial position. If you are not on the AC screen a small box appears on the bottom of the screen showing the new HVAC selection.

Do you know if this gives you the ability to add the sensors and the harness (and make it work) without having to reprogram the Jeep ECM?

That is a great question and wish I could answer it with 100% certainty but can’t. My guess would be if you added sensors, you could make it work but I believe you would need a reprogram. I do have a tazer and an option with the tazer is to change parksense so I believe it is possible. And from this head unit standpoint the wiring is all there. Hope that helps a little.

Took the Jeep off-road and caught 2 rock chips on the front door hinges! . Ordered some touch up paint and protective film kit for the hinges from R3offroad. Also, placed an order for Mountain Off-road hide-a-steps. I was torn between those and the Ace engineering sliders because I wanted to keep the factory rock rails. Pulled the trigger on the MORE due to availability and a lot easier install than the ACE...didn’t want to take a chance breaking a cab bolt. Will post pics next week when they come in.

M.O.R.E. Steps came today! I have 4 of them. Should have them in either tomorrow or Thursday. This is one I haven’t seen a lot of pics of, I will do a write up for the install.

Ok, MORE steps are in. Talk about a PITA install. It’s all straight forward but the back steps take a little bit if you do not want to grind them down. The front steps went great. I chose to take the rock rail off. 10MM wrench for the 8 side bolts and 12MM for the 4 body mount bolts. Once the rock rail is off, I squeezed the step spring mechanism to make a 90 degree angle and zip tied them at the 90 degree. That way I could balance them in position on the rock rail and reinstall. Takes some balance and patience but worked well for me. Balance both of them on the rock rail by the body mount position ( a hole in the step will line up with a hole in the slider) and slide the factory bolts through the side. Then, start on the rear step first. With the body of the Jeep, it doesn’t sit as good as the front and takes some work to make it right. I used all the original Jeep rock rail hardware minus for the front of rear step I used the supplied washer and nut (11MM). I also used the supplied washers in between the metal contact points. Everything else was OEM hardware. The front of rear but was a booger to get a thread started. I used a brass hammer to tap the forward front edge of the step to get it more flush and worked good. I tightened the rear side nuts for the rear before doing the cab bolt. Worked great. For the front, everything fits like a dream. The hardest part was the bolt going to the cab. The spring mechanism from the step prevents a socket from fitting. A took a wrench and used it like a screw driver to tighten until it was close enough to the cab to clear the spring then use the wrench in a standard fashion. Once they were bolted in I used a board to put behind the step mechanism to prevent it from springing back on the frame when I snipped the zip ties. Worked great! Was able to get the pins in easy up front. The rear I used a flat head screw driver to aid in lining the pin up flush. Attached are pics and hopefully they help. It went slower than I thought but very happy with the end result. Took about 1.5 hours for driver side...30 min passenger...due to the fact all tools I laid out and knew the tricks. Please let me know if you all have any questions.

Thanks for writing all the detail. How do you like the steps? Are they really functional? Seems like they might be a little hard to use when getting out. I was thinking they might have a way to stay in the down position until I watched the MORE video and saw they are spring loaded.

So far I like them. They work great for getting into the Jeep. Getting out takes a little practice. You have to use your heal to catch the plate then it works fine. To be honest, I bought them for mostly entry and for the kiddos. My daughter who is 5 uses them for entry and exit and has no problem. She told me thank for her new easy step so I think she enjoys it. I will use it to get into the Jeep but probably still will jump out for exiting.
