Okay so the PUG takes 5 quarts .. once started how many quarts is in the pan . I read a full quart is up top in the cooler and filter . So 4 quarts total in circulation . How much is left in the pan to be picked up ? I have always felt this is one of the reasons why it takes 0w-20 so it can run quickly back down to the pan before the sump runs dry 😂😂😂
That joke aside .. I dont think once on a steep pull there is much left to pick up .
The engine dry fill is 5.7 quarts. So there is always 0.7 quarts that never drains during a normal 5 quart oil change.

Lash adjusters, oil galleries, head recesses, oil pump recesses and more.

So how long does one have to let the oil drain to get all 5.7 quarts out ?

It will not all drain out. Like @ShadowsPapa mentioned, there is primed components and various galleys where things will pool and never drain and are only displaced by positive oil pressure that will pool again in the same places once shutdown.

Well one simply need replace that teny tiny yellow poca.. oh sorry side tracked ..
Teny tiny oil pan with a bigger one and capacity is increased. I dont think it will hurt these things at all to run 6 quarts 1 in up top alot of the rest of it is getting pushed around so whats in the pan 2 quarts if your running over a quart. Someone prove me wrong on that.🫢😉

One of the reasons I put a large flat pan under the engine on a stand when I disassemble it is to catch all of the oil that runs out of the oil galleries, the oil pump and other parts. Taking apart an engine is messy work Keep the 'floor dry' (or cheap kat litter) ready and a pan under the engine.
Even sitting for weeks, there will be oil in places.

An AMC 390 I worked on - a lot of oil when I finally turned the thing over to pull the pan, then the oil pump dumped oil all over when I pulled it off.
