that piece is there because of that dumbass front axle disconnect. Its to keep the tire from crushing your passengers feet when it snaps off in a frontal offset crash. RIP to the feet of whoever “did the research” on this for all of us.

Most people cut it flush along the bottom of the frame and use a cutoff wheel on the flap if the tire is hitting there too
