I’m still looking for a way to withdraw diesel from my Gladiator fuel tank for an Espar Hydronic heater. I have seen several ways to do it, but I think the best way would be a direct connection to the tank.
I have seen spin weld fittings added to water tanks and that seems like an ideal solution. The problem comes in knowing what material the fuel tanks are constructed from. I have read that some other truck brands use 2 layer tanks with a white lining in them. I have no idea if spin welding would work in that situation. The tanks that are spin welded are generally made from HDPE. I am assuming the fuel tanks are the same material. However, I would not want to have to replace a tank because of a wrong assumption. The question I am posing is, “does anyone have any experience with the plastic diesel tanks made by Jeep?” Has anyone drilled, cut, or otherwise abused a tank and have any scrap left over? I am not the only one looking for these answers, there are lots of folks with diesel air or water heaters that would like a solution to this problem.
