This thread: Can you use factory lug nuts with Method wheels got me wondering about the reverse. I recently had a set of Method 705s put on my Gladiator, but seeing as it's never been out from under the truck, I left the spare alone.

So, can I use the spline-drive lugs that are holding my Methods on, or should I swing through an auto-parts store and pick up a 5-pack of "regular" lug nuts (in the appropriate thread count / pitch) in the event I need to put the spare on at some point?

In short, no you shouldn't use spline lug nuts on OEM wheels, spare or otherwise.

The taper for the mating surface is different.

No, the spare is a steel wheel. Not an aluminum or forged wheel.

You’ll most likely need to use the conical lugs that come with stock wheels for the spare.

If you look at the spline lugs that you’ll need for Methods, Raceline, SSW, KMC, RRW, or etc, you’ll see that there is a lip to the lugs. That lip is meant to allow extra bite on the threads for those wheels.
