AWD doesn't have a Low Range. Full Time 4 Wheel Drive does have Low Range.
Sometimes (not always), AWD is viscously coupled as well, with no mechanical transfer case. Thats how it was on my STi, but it had a manually controllable center differential, so you could adjust the viscous coupling up to full lock, like a TC. Lines really are blurred now though. They advertised my compass as being 4 wheel drive, and I guess it was, but it automatically switched to 4wd on its own if it sensed slip, no matter what. You couldn't turn it off. But you could force it to stay on, not off. Also, it was front wheel drive based, rather than rear. So it was more like an AWD vehicle, except it had a mechanical transfer case, not viscous coupling. But no low range, so more like AWD
Then there are the Trailhawk Compasses and Cherokees, which have some sort of low range, but otherwise have the AWD/4wd hybrid system like my compass had. I don't know anything about those, beyond what the website says. Never researched them too much.

If your budget allows to walk away from $1,000 then so be it. But I (as others) ordered my JTM from my dealer after building and pricing online. I read it and made my choice. There was one transfer case choice other than the standard setup, and that is the Selec-Trac. A $795 option. Repeated again, this wording taken directly from the Jeep.com website:

The Selec-Trac® Full-Time 4x4 System features a 4H-Auto mode that will automatically engage and disengage 4WD as needed to maintain traction in mixed surface road conditions.

Not much more to say. If you think dealer will hold your $1,000 hostage, find another dealer if you are displeased and willing to take the hit. I couldn't do that myself. But it appears that you have lots of choices in your area.

I've been fortunate enough to have always ordered my vehicles from my dealer without deposits or signatures based on trust. But I have always done my homework before I commit.
Thanks for the reply. I hear you, Noting the option reads perfectly clear on the build site. Select-trac Full-time 4wd" nothing else, unless clicked into... Just like all the other options, they read perfectly clear and there's no need to click into them..or had bulleted lists. I just didn't see a need to "click into it" with such a perfectly clear title.. If clicked into, you then see the description you posted and it clearly contradicts the meaning of "Full-time" Why not say "Selec-trac Auto 4wd" this is much clearer in terms of reality of the system and would have drawn me to "click-in" as it requires further definition. Tthe real issue for me w/jeep is the semantics of communication. Will post any news from the dealer. ty

I doubt Jeep is going to change anything. You seem to be about the only person who has posted complaining about this.

Well Jeremy, your a good sport taking it on the chin like a boss with all this criticism. I placed my order without deposit and dealer made sure of my understanding of what I ordered. When it came to transfer case he said ”Do you want to set it and forget it on dicey roads or do it manually? Clearly understood what that meant. I say follow through and see how you like it. It may not even be an issue. If you can afford the 1K hit to your wallet, cancel. Either way they will never sell it as a loss if you don’t buy it.

Please do keep us posted on the outcome. Hopefully you and you dealer can sit down and come to an agreement that is desirable for all. I would sure think they would allow another order out and put the current order in dealer stock. Best of luck! ;)

As far as I understand I can't walk away from an order I'd almost be fine with loosing 1k.. Once you sign that purchase agreement or whatever it seems like there's no going back

From what I understand, they are made whole by retaining the deposit and the collateral to sell as new Inventory.
