How well do cell phone boosters actually work? Do they work with data? I need one for those occasions that I am out of service so i can bring in GPS corrections while doing land surveys.
Most of them are just two antennas and an amplifier. They work with voice and data. Carefully read the description, and the reviews, so you are aware of any issues or limitations. Be sure to get one that covers the full range of frequencies and channels used by your carrier.
We have the Weboost Reach Overland.
IF your phone sees at least one bar without the weboost on, turning it on does improve the data signal. Hard to quantify but subjectively seems better to my wife when she is using her laptop via her iphone hotspot.
Measuring db in maintenance mode did not show an increase though.
Yes they work. We use them at work and I have one in my jeep too. Be aware that you need SOME signal for it to work. It won’t magically boost something that’s not there. I also have the overland version so that I can fold the antenna down when not in use. I have it mounted on a way-a-life antenna mount at the front of the bed.
Just installed a Weboost Overland
First test was to go up a canon that I always lost cell reception
Going in and out of the canon with the booster I never lost reception once and had 4 bars
Time will tell put looks promising
They do work, but not as good as you would think. You have to have some cell signal to begin with, no cell no boost. When it does boost, it gives you a stronger signal, but it takes away some speed. This is because a phone has multiple antenna, and a booster only has one. For the cost of the name brands I would pass, however there is one on Amazon that bought and tested and it just just as good as the name brand for under $200. I bought it used it, tested it and it has helped in areas with poor service. It’s on sale right now for $79! Buy it…https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BLHKTN9H?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I live 30 minutes north of Denver where its rural and you see the overland antennas all the time on the gas and oil company trucks as well as the farm trucks. They work great as long as there is some signal to boost, I originally bought the Weboost Drive Reach with the magnetic shark fin antenna to use on my SUV when camping and driving in the mtns. Now that we got the Gladiator, I got the Overland extended antenna, separate power supply and internal antenna and I can use the Drive Reach in both the SUV and Gladiator. Last time I used it I went from no connection at all to being able to login to my home security app and lock my house front door cause we forgot in the rush to get on the road and we were even able to download a movie in about 5 minutes
As I know it is good for improving signal strength and data connectivity. They are effective in remote areas, enhancing GPS corrections for land surveys. For EE poor signal visit https://www.uctel.co.uk/blog/using-signal-boosters-to-fight-ee-signal-problems to get know how to fix that. That what a guy from a shop told me. Also want to buy one.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is how close your phone needs to be to the WeBoost interior antenna for maximum effectiveness. It works best if your phone is within a foot or less. We moved ours to the center dash where our phones are mounted and it is significantly stronger signal. Outside the vehicle it’s useless.
