I lock it in 8th gear by putting it in manual. That way it's not jumping up and down from gear to gear.
. I’m sorry to tell you that does not “lock in “ any gear, when you slow down at all the trans will still downshift when more power is needed. The one thing it will do, like if you leave it in manual in any gear lower than 8th the trans will not upshift from that gear on. Especially when using the CC, that makes the trans downshift the soonest possible.

I could see getting another gallon out of it if I didn’t have so many hills.
It's really hilly were we live and much of Iowa, but where I have noticed what I mentioned, it was in the flatter parts, river bottom areas, where the glaciers were, etc.. I'd never try it around home.

WOW really?? So you pull the nozzle out some and fill the tank listening for the sound of topping off??

I'll try it next time!
One of the worst things you can do is overfill with gas. Once it’s full and clicks off, don’t try to round it off more than.2 gal. What can happen is you add so much more gas you end up contaminating the evaporation pollution control system, that’s designed to let the system breath without emitting harmful vapors. In some instances can actually fill the charcoal canister that’s more expensive to replace than it should be! This information is in the owners manual.

Yes and no - some nozzles trigger off at a really low level, depending on the speed the fuel goes in and so on.

I don't fill until I can see it in the tube or anything crazy, but when it stops and you can get 2 or 3 more gallons in and not even be "too full"......... anyway, it varies with the pump.
However, to be safe - be careful and don't try to squeeze in every last tenth of a gallon you can. It's true - a couple of members had to make dealer visits for repairs after filling way too full.

I try to run it on a low volume when filling but some stations have gone to nozzles that have one flow rate - FULL BLAST, no more ability to let it run in slow. Don't know why they want them only running full without the extra latch notch - it often causes SPLASH BACK.. I have to hold the gas nozzle myself to prevent it from going full blast and suddenly kicking off and causing a back-flow.
