While in the Colorado mountains, Pike's Peak and so on, I had it in manual mode the whole time. Hardly touched the brakes at all. The guy at the check point coming must have seen an almost ambient temperature on the rotors.
Somewhere I saw, read, whatever, that going into neutral is dangerous anyway. I always use engine braking when it's not ordinary grades or loads. Maybe that's why I could almost always go well over 100,000 miles on brakes with my cars and trucks?
I have never had to replace the brakes in a vehicle under 100K miles.

Once the nozzle clicks off the first time. I can still squeeze another 3 gallons into the tank. Just have to watch out for the foam coming up the neck. The great thing about the diesel is. No evap can to worry about when filling up.

WOW really?? So you pull the nozzle out some and fill the tank listening for the sound of topping off??

I'll try it next time!

The fuel pump can get shorten life when you driving on such low fuel. 1/4 tank is safe to stay submerged and cool.

Retired. Beach bum.
I bought my 2021 willys gladiator 1 month ago. It had 28100 miles on it. Now it has 30800 miles. Loaded. I wanted a convertible but needed a truck. WIN WIN. I started hypermiling it. Shift into neutral on all down hills, I do the speed limit, 65 on interstate, locked in CC in 8th gear. I think I confused the computer. You can see in the pictures for my proof. I hopped in and gas gauge said LOW, 15 MILE RANGE. So I filled up. It took 18.1 gallons. I got 367 miles on that 18.1 gallons. It said my new range was 405 miles. Im pretty sure i could get 425 to 450 miles using a FULL TANK OF FUEL. The actual 22 gallons. Anyway, I am running the AT tires at 37psi. I am loving these numbers. And yes, I do take it off road, no rock crawls, just hills, mud and dirt. I am absolutely loving this vehicle. And this is my first Jeep. I just turned 55.

Tell us how you “in Cruise Control I lock in 8th gear”? Because if you’re hypermiling with CC you are doing it wrong. For one thing you’re not locking the trans in 8th gear, unless you have some gizmo that allows it. Because CC causes the trans to downshift sooner and more often than just feathering the gas pedal just barely enough to maintain speed without downshifting. Have you gone into you drivers settings to show what gear you’re in? Do that and see how often the trans shifts gears.

I eyeball the foam coming up the neck. After the first click. Wait about a minute, then slowly squeeze the handle. Watch for the foam to come up. When the foam comes up, stop and wait a few seconds and repeat. I can get the fuel all the up the neck to the cap. It's around 3 gallons after the first click. This is best done with the nozzle restrictor removed.

I lock it in 8th gear by putting it in manual. That way it's not jumping up and down from gear to gear.

I guess CC is "some gizmo" to some of us... ;)

TBH, I do the same thing to try and keep it in 8th gear to keep the RPMs down when trying to be fuel conscious.

2nd dumbest post of the day
I try.

I do try to convince the evil guy with the pointed tail on my left shoulder, that the guy with the halo on my right shoulder is usually right. The guy on my left just says "That is dumb" when he has no valid rebuttal.

So you all missed the point. My truck said fill up. You have 18 miles left. You are on E. My truck lied to me.
Its not lying. The sensor can't read that last few gallons. plus you start starving the pump which is cooled by the gas it pumps. The quickest way to kill a fuel pump is to run it below an 1/8th tank and/or with the fuel light on all the time. You can't physically get the full 22 gals out of the tank. It'll die around 19.5 gallons, i should know I've tested it. I call it the pasta sauce jar effect. You'll never get all the sauce out on the initial pour alone.

huh? saying someone going 125mph is safer than somone going 65mph at any point in this country, when the fastest posted speed limit is 80mph is dumb... regardless of what shoulder U'r listening to.

Chill. relax, it's just a joke.

I have already stated that that post was a bit misunderstood and mis-stated.

I just HATE the arrogance of slow drivers who do it intentionally.

Be well. Jeep on.

Odd, I've gotten 20.5 gallons in mine before. I didn't even try hard. The "range" number will vary based on your current driving and other factors.
When that low fuel light triggers, if you stop somewhere and restart it, it might tell you that you have more miles left and not trigger again for a while.
As long as the pump draws fuel, it's ok. Besides, if it does draw air, it will let you know.

My 4.0 setup in my car - if too low the pump sucks a bit of air and the engine "hiccups". you'd have to starve it of fuel for more than a second or two to fry it, and by then, the engine's going to die.

I could see getting another gallon out of it if I didn’t have so many hills.

If 125mph is safer than 65, then 250mph is double safer!
