Less than 20 minutes after leaving the dealership with my brand new 2020 Launch Edition, I heard the dreaded CRACK! and sure enough, a small stone had one the dirty deed - cracking my windshield leaving a spider that's about the size of a half-dollar coin. I think it's too big to fix so I'll be looking to have it replaced. Need to see what's involved - time and cost - to get a factory windshield.

I can't believe I'm the first here but I didn't find any other postings when I searched.

Jeep's windshields are notoriously easy to crack from the slightest impacts and because of that, most every Jeep forum I've been on has a Cracked Windshield Club. Here's one:

Sorry about your loss!
Nice Avatar though!!

Windshield film. I’ve had it on every Jeep going on two decades. Zero chips or cracks in that time

Assuming that goes on the outside of the windshield? Do you have an estimated cost?

Last time I did it, it was ~ $275 added to a full tint job and yes inside. Although I usually do 70% tint on the inside as well.

Interesting, how does putting the protective layer on the inside prevent the window from flying objects?

It doesn’t that just for UV and heat rejection. The crack prevention film is like a really thick version of a film screen protector for a phone

Any film a reputable tint shop carries should be fine
Do you know for certain if that film (the outside one) affects the Adaptive Cruise Control calibration?

Interestingly, when I mentioned the windshield glass affecting the calibration my daughter said that was unlikely. She suspects someone's trying to sell an unneeded service. What does she know? Well, she happens to be a research physicist whose specialty is optics and lasers.

If it does then excessive bug splatter would too

Same here. It must have happened overnight bc I haven’t driven the gladiator in a couple days.

What the Santa Claus shit! That is garbage, there is no way that’s not a warranty issue. I wouldn’t believe that for one second. I’d put an FCA warranty claim in through a different Jeep Dealer repair shop if that were mine, you haven’t even had it a month!
You’re kidding, right?!

I had one with less than 2K miles on the truck. I went through ins and Safelite (https://www.safelite.com). They came to my house in a couple of days and fixed it. They had the correct windshield, even had the Willy's in the corner.

Same, probably 1400 some miles. Small rock chip the kind they like to drip the glue into for "repair", but I insisted on full replacement since it was in driver direct line of sight. I carry $0 deductible for glass-only, when owning two jeeps (the JT and a TJ) its well worth it. I did have to ASK specifically for Mopar OEM replacement, the default with Safelite is an aftermarket supplier. It has little Willys in the corner, says Mopar on it, all is right with the world again. :)

Got mine at around 4300 miles. Let the daughters boyfriend drive it and they watched it crack right before their eyes in two different places. There are 2 very tiny chips. In my opinion they shouldn’t have caused the windshield to crack. I have had other vehicles with much larger chips that never cracked.
