Bizarre windshield crack this morning

Yeah it was in the freezing 50s here in N-Fl yesterday morning, turned my defroster on, and boom, huge crack from the middle bottom of the windshield. Safelite and other windshield install companies must be making a killing of jeeps! Second windshield in a year.

I have had a very small chip on the very top edge of my windshield for several months. I heard the rock hit and spent a bit of time looking at the windshield trying to find it. I didn't think I could do a chip repair just because of how it was on the very edge. It has been there quite a while. Yesterday while having the defroster on, it finally started to crack. I don't think a defroster will crack a windshield that doesn't have a defect in it, but it will sure make a defect known.

Now I just found out Safelite rescheduled my appointment without letting me know. Been sitting around all morning waiting on them. Nice job Safelite.

Welcome to owning a Jeep, although the issue isn't just Jeeps. I had an FJ Cruiser before this Jeep and went through a few windshield repairs in 11 years. Same issue - damn near vertical windshield that "stops" the rocks and doesn't deflect them.

Looking at OPs pictures I would guess a chip or nick on the bottom of the glass. Years ago had the windshield replaced on the fire engine I drove. Glass was replaced in the bay at the station. After the glass co left and we were doing our daily checks when I put the engine in pump gear ( 3500 RPM) the glass split like OPs glass. Was a nick in the bottom of the glass.

Yeah, last windshield they rescheduled three times because it was cloudy, but at least he let me know.

Bought my gladiator in 2019 second windsheild crack on board right now. I spent a few extra dollars on lowering my deductable i gues it is a gladiator thing.....I JUST LOVE MINE THOUGH 29000 miles and still going strong.

Same exact spot on my JT windshield. but the crack went to the drivers side. Same MO, first cold snap of the year, defroster on, and bam.

Yeah I complained to the NHTSA, not that anything will happen. Like a bunch of others have said, just the joys of owning a Jeep!

Low 30s this morning in AM. Had my windshield defroster on with heat at 70% or so. Windshield thawed completely and after about 6-7 mins of driving, stop at local bagel shop.

Turn truck off, go inside, come out 5 mins later to this:

Across the entire windshield. The only thing I can think of are the temperature changes back and forth from cold to hot to cold again.

Nothing fell on my car either. Gorilla Glass my ass....

Should I go through insurance or dealership?

With Gorilla ? Glass I think it’s warranted against breakage. 1x replacement for up to 2 years. Gorilla Glass provides the warranty which is managed by your Jeep Dealer.

Yeah I tried that warranty. Not worth the phone call. Jeep screwed me and denied. The person on the phone that opened my “case” didn’t even know about it. I had to send her the link. Denied with no reason or recourse. GG is the biggest ripoff to come out of Jeep.

Good to know, was thinking about getting it myself but if they won't stand behind it what's the point.
