Crack the windshield in my 2025 gladiator Rubicon. $500 deductible at the dealership to get replacement gorilla glass does that sound right or is anyone else able to make it work? For less to get original replacement.

Gorilla glass is one of the worst rip-offs any company has ever come up with!!!! It came with the '22 Overland as a $1,200 "upgrade"and cracked within a month and had to pay out of my pocket the deductible to replace it because both the manufacturer AND Jeep refused to honor the 2 year warranty that supposedly comes with it. I also have it on the new Mojave because it came with it, I had no choice. After one month running it, it has enough of those micro-pockmarks you get on windshields to look like a 5 year old windshield. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I know this does not fix your issue but it's one of the few products out there that have truly disappointed me so I will continue to crap on it every chance I have.

I had my windshield replaced recently. The Safelite tech said the Gorilla Glass is only the inner layer, and the outer layer is the same as the regular windshield. So they will chip the same, and a hard enough impact will still crack either. But a GG windshield is still more crack-resistant than a standard windshield.

Just for comparison I had the GG replaced in my 2024 JL. This included the antenna in the glass and recalibrating the ACC. It was covered by my comprehensive coverage (State Farm). All work was done by Safelite. They were paid $1800.00 by the insurance.

I guess you ignored all of the facts and science about the GG windshields and go only by one personal experience as how the world is.

I always drive the same roads, the same ways and so on.
My 2020 was NOT GG. Went through 2 windshields in 2.5 years
My 2022 was ordered with GG - it withstood some severe smacks that left pits but never cracked. Those same hits would have likely killed non-GG
My 2025 is GG and also has seen heavy smacks with pits in the glass for over a year. No cracks. My insurance has glass coverage in the comprehensive.

Points -
It does resist impacts better and will survive 60% better - meaning you stand a far far better chance of it NOT cracking, but it isn't crack-proof and NO ONE ever said it was. It IS crack resistant. GG would survive 60 out of 100 hits that would take out a standard windshield is one way to look at it - so it's still going to chip and break. But my experience has been I don't worry so much about the chips any more.

The biggest advantage is in an accident. If anyone here has been in a collision where glass shards from the windshield come flying at you, or your head impacts the windshield, you will be very thankful for GG. I bought it mainly to protect my wife from glass shards in case of an accident. For that alone it's worth every penny - however, having had many windshields replaced over the years here, hits on my Eagle, my WJ and several others, and seeing how well the upright windshields in my JT and our JLU withstand the hits - it's worth that as well. I'd almost bet I'd have gone through at least 2 more windshields if we didn't have GG in our Jeeps. I'll never go back.

The SAFETY for my wife or others in our vehicles is worth the money. I do not worry about glass in her eyes, in my one good eye, or faces being ripped up.
And something large isn't as likely to penetrate fully and hit an occupant.

I just get pissed that some engineer thought it was a good idea to install antennas in the windshield of my Sahara.. Lets make the one part of the truck most likley to crack on a trail EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE.

When it does break Im just gonna have them throw a generic one on there.

I had 2 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited’s assigned to me at work (2015 and 2020). I went through several windshields on them due to rocks/debris kicked up from the road by other vehicles (more than any other vehicle I ever drove). I attributed those breaks to the near vertical windshields. I have already had several hits to the GG in the Gladiator in the 3 months since purchase and I am sure that regular glass would have been broken by some of those hits. Based upon my experience so far, I will insist on GG if/when it becomes necessary to replace the original windshield in the Gladiator.

I have it in my 2022. The route to work took me past a rock quary, trucks constantly in and out of the place and dropping there crap everywhere. I retired in july. So over 4 years and countless impacts and it has never cracked, its pitted pretty good but never broke. Im sure I would have had to replace that windshield more than once if it was standard glass.

Your deductible is based on your your insurance. I replaced my GG windshield for free because I have 100% glass coverage. It will be different for everyone. 0

My 2024 Gladiator is the first I’ve owned with GG. With that said my last two trucks, both Z71 Colorados, 2016 ext cab, 2019 crew cab of course had standard glass like every other vehicle till then. That all within a two year + period like now with this 2024, had the microscopic pits evenly marked all over, not really hindering any sight, but seemingly never crystal clear, even using the Ethos graphene enhanced ceramic protective coating I use all over my vehicles bodies, glass and interiors. Best protectorate ever with extreme water repellent properties and dirt/dust, not to mention bugs from sticking, so a good downpour is almost like a wash. So din e I e used that on the GG, since new the windshield is still crystal clear and free of any pits, micro or anything. Treated the same as the Chevys were the GG has maintained clarity better.

I agree with other posters here that say GG is not worth the money. But if your warranty replaces it with a $500 deductible then that’s not a bad deal. In my opinion regular shatterproof glass is adequate and cheaper but GG may offer better shatterproof protection. It’s just not as good as advertised. It’s your choice.

Windshields use laminated glass, which bonds two glass sheets with a plastic layer so cracked pieces stay glued together. Side and rear windows typically use tempered glass, which breaks into small, dull, pebble-like granules rather than jagged shards.

Above is taken from a Google search on federal safety standards.

Short story - All Glass in the vehicle must NOT shatter into shards.

Dealer has replaced mine twice at no charge. 2022 Overland in 2023 and 2025.
