The shippers don't care and are not trying, something that heavy cannot be easily handled by one person, shipping companies generally only have the driver so it is going to dropped off the truck and pushed around, that is why I made the comment about it not be possible to be packaged in a way that it would not be damaged.
Packing materials are lightweight . . .

No one knows now to package shit these days. From small stuff ordered online to big stuff like bumpers. I got to know the guy who was responsible for packaging design and TESTING at CCC.
Bottom line - if it moves in the box, you ain't done.
I ship starters (the heavy Ford 4 1/2" type from the 60s and 70s), and other heavy stuff all the time and NEVER have damage, ever. I've shipped chrome bumpers, $1,200 plastic grills for classic cars and more - no damage.
If it moves even a little bit, it's a big battering ram in that box.

It's not cheap to CORRECTLY and properly package things like this - and that's the problem. Toss it in a box fast, waste no time, waste no money - and some may get through undamaged.

The bumper I bought off eBay for my JT wasn't TOO badly packed - they didn't do great on the bar and it had a couple of minor chips, but it amazes me that the eBay vendor selling a cheap bumper with cheap/free shipping does a better job than these higher end specialists shipping more expensive bumpers and parts.

No pride in work any more.

I ordered a DV8 bumper from Quadratec and same issue. 1st one came with a huge dent and scratches. Quadratec sent out another bumper and it came with just minor scratches. This is when I realized there is no way I'm going to get a 100 pound bumper deliverd without some scuffs & minor scratches. Quadratec made it right and gave me a huge discount and a can of exact match touch up paint.
You can try again but I bet it will not come perfect. I would ask for a major discount & touch up. Return shipping should cost a fortune so I'm sure they would be willing to give a hefty discount.

no, the problem is that people don’t consider shipping cost in their purchase. Most think shipping should be free. They bitch when shipping is a significant percentage of the purchase price. Look up any threat involving rock hard 4x4 sliders and you will find people complaining about the shipping cost. I paid $150 for shipping Direct and they arrived perfect. Others want Black Friday free shipping From a third party and expect the same. Bumpers and armor are big and bulky and are awkward to package and ship.

Cheap, fast or good, choose 2.

I wouldn’t accept it.

people CAN ship without issue. My two ARB bull bars had zero issues. (ZJ and a WJ)
The Shrock Works for my old JK was delivered without issue.

it’s possible and should be expected to receive a product in perfect condition.

That sucks OP. What is Morris 4x4 doing sending a bumper like that? My Tactic stubby bumper i got from quadratec came in a box that was absolutely shredded but it was so well wrapped in bubble and shrink wrap I could've dropped it off my roof and it would be fine. Once maybe but twice, no way. I would ask for my money back and go somewhere else.

Sorry, but the shipping cost would be roughly the same whether you packaged it well or not. When you get to large items, it's as much size as weight. So packaging it very well would not add much weight at all, the box would be the same size (or less in some cases).
Odd that I can do it - others can't. People pack these things and don't use logic.
I received a long box with the "cargo rails" for my truck - along with some hardware for them (hooks, loops, etc.) They did a good job - but they put the bag of hardware against the painted rails instead of using some of the pound of paper in the box to go BETWEEN the rails and hardware. A simple move - no extra cost at all - not a bit. Shipping cost exactly the same. All they had to do was think - and put the paper between the items instead of surround them together.
It was like a bumper I bought - had they moved one piece in the box or put a piece of cardboard between the parts, they'd not have touched at all. Same stuff in the box - they just hurry and toss it in without logic.
It's generally a matter of arranging things carefully. Takes no more material in many cases, or if it does - it won't impact shipping charges from the carrier.
I could ship these items for the exact same costs - just package them better.
Most of the time it's truly untrained people, cheap help - here, toss this in a box and send it out.
Some of the stuff people ship to me for repairs they use the exact same size box, the same carrier I use - but the stuff arrives to me beat up. I get it back to them unharmed. Same size box, same shipping costs.

I understand what you are saying, but it is awfully nice of you to offer your time packaging up items carefully for free.

this is common with heavier items. Especially if they include free shipping. Packaging is actually quite expensive. Plus the bulkier it is the more it cost to ship. So they just use the bare minimum. i will admit I learned this the hard way but going with lower cost steel bumpers which came ok but were poorly welded and fitment was awful. Sadly you have to spend a lot and go with a big manufacturer to really get a good product with good packaging. Sadly that’s usually 1,500 +

I guess you missed part of the point, too - it's not taking MORE time, it's doing it right in the SAME time.
Doesn't take any more time to put something in a different place. Think, plan, it's a puzzle. Some people simply don't think as they put things in a box. Takes no more time to do it right in most cases. Even if it took 5 more minutes- balance that against returns and the expense of replacing parts for free.
I am swamped in my shop because of attention to detail and doing things correctly - and I've proven it doesn't take more time in every case.
I nailed the Plymouth Troubleshooting contest in 75, set an Iowa RECORD for time to judging as well as a perfect written score - imagine, the car is right, and it's there faster than others who messed up? (no one broke that record before the contest was ended by MOPAR due to budget troubles)
Hoses and wires even had to be in the correct place and order - so if I'm spending more time doing it right - how'd I get to judging faster than the rest?
You CAN do it right - and in the same time.
My wife is always amazed at how I can look at pieces of a display she had out for Christmas and put them all back in the original packaging so they all fit right, and back in the box. (and not take all day doing it)
You have to think - not be stuck in la-la land with your ear buds blasting on high.
Maybe I just hold people to a higher standard, I know I get frustrated with others who mess up and can't keep up with me.

My Yeti Track Bar package showed up yesterday completely open. Looks like everything was there, so my luck. I have had other packages, light ones even show up with a single stretch of tape where you could stick your hand through and grab contents. More care could be taken packaging up contents.

So just to be clear... with your logic if you get free/sub $50 shipping on something like a bumper, you should expect it to be all beat to hell when you get it? If so, your a funny dude!
