There are a lot of threads about hardwiring to AUX switches, I am not able to find anything about hard wiring WITHOUT the aux switches. I have found a few threads but not once have I found where anyone posted what fuses they tapped into for the constant 12V and accessory 12V.

Looking through the owners manual, it looks like F91 (Horn 20A) could be used for constant on and F52 (Cigar Lighter 20A) could be used for the accessory power.

Has anyone who has hardwired a Dash Cam in and NOT used the AUX switches used the above mentioned fuses or did you use other fuses? Obviously a fuse tap will be used for the installation, just looking to see what fuses people have actually used for their dash cam installation WITHOUT the AUX switches.

** I do have the AUX switches but they are not a factory installation, so I DO NOT have the 12V and 12V ACC wires that come with a factory optioned AUX switch.

I tapped mine into the cigarette lighter plug, that way the dashcam comes on when the vehicle does. and i didn't have to run a wire through the firewall.

Quadratec makes a plug & play connector that uses the "lower dash power port" (AKA" cigarette lighter)
https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadratec/12-volt-power-adapter-jeep-wrangler-jl

From the item listing:
The Wrangler JL (JT) uses a CANbus system consisting of multiple micro-controllers needed to communicate with each other. The only switched ignition lead available to tap into is located behind the lower dash power port. This is the only place that a switched accessory can safely be attached. This is an easy way to add accessories without causing damage to the electrical system. The kit allows you to neatly wire accessories that are switched on and off with the ignition key. Kits includes a "plug and play" wire harness with an in-line fuse and ground. It is simple to install with fully detailed instructions.

I have a question about Dash Cams.

Are they set up to power on and start recording when they receive 12v then stop and power down when 12v is cut?

Really want to add one to my rig but having to remember to power on and press record is preventing me from buying one.

It all depends on the model you buy. Some have monitoring features, some have an internal battery, some have dual cameras. Look for one that has the features that are important to you. Most of them power up and automatically start recording.

I think it's Quadratec that sells a harness that connects to the 12v outlet harness and provides a tap to hardwire accessories.

Agree with @Mr. Bill -- I ran a Vantrue N2 in my JK. Dual cameras and it was good for what it was. With that one, I had it with the cig plug and not hardwired. Turn on jeep, starts recording. Turn off, stops.

I'm now running a Nextbase that for me, suits my needs with one camera but great picture AND GPS from the start versus a option for others. This one is hardwired. You can wire it so that if it senses movement when off, it records for a set time.

IMO, everyone should have a dash cam as I've used it twice to record 1. a wreck and 2. someone breaking through my communities gate.
