I ordered a Rubicon X in May, and subsequently got a notification that assembly was completed on July 29. Since then I've been getting frequently changing delivery estimates, varying from mid August forward, and currently August 26. This morning I checked and it said September 9, and this evening it's August 26!

Is this normal? It seems crazy, like they're using a random number generator for these dates. ???

Does seem long. Maybe big volume in the middle of 24 orders? Still seems long. Mine was "Built" 8/23/23, "Shipped" 8/23/23 and I picked it up 9/11/23. It was there a week or so before I flew down to pick it up. Custom ordered.

Any idea if your truck is moving from Ohio to WV by truck or rail? The all over the place ETAs suggest to me it's going by rail.

I mean estimates are by definition a guess. There are likely a variety of factors at play, especially if it's scheduled to go by rail as @Rahkmalla mentioned. As that information changes, so does their estimate, but remember it's still just a guess.

The alternative would be they don't update it as the situation changes...

From my talk with Yark CDJR when i ordered. One of the reason i picked a dealer close to the toledo plant was because they states most trucks arrive by rail since toledo has a solid hub. However apparently the paint on our trucks doesn't play well with train brake dust and according to my guy he said may be the cause of early corrosion on panels. At first I thought no friggin way. But my Mojave has no paint defects or corrosion yet and I've scratched the shit out of it on trails and the beach. My 22' rubicon that i got lightly used (4k odo) had imbedded metal/rust all over, and some parts got all the way to primer already before i detoxed the paint. Sure I enough I looked into it, and my rubicon was delivered to VA via train. Not definitive proof per se but it is food for thought.

My 22 Mojave was moved by truck to eastern PA, and i definitely have not had any of the corrosion issues i see others have. Super anecdotal but fits the hypothesis. I'd be curious to see a representative sample size, just not curious enough to make a survey (especially since most people have no idea how their truck was delivered, and people guessing would only hurt the data quality).

As for why rail movement is a more varied ETA, it's a function of steps.

To go to the dealer by train it needs to get on a truck, get to a railyard, loaded on a railcar, connected to a train, moved to another railyard, unloaded, get on another truck, then make delivery. To arrive by truck, it just needs to get on a truck and make delivery. slower travel when it's moving, but significantly less time spent at 0mph.

*Story time warning*

And from my experience in ocean freight (i import about 600 40' containers per year), every change of vessel is a new opportunity to miss the loading due to errors or overbooking. Or even worse get put on the wrong vessel. I had a container of fruit from Serbia sail from Croatia (Origin) to Gioia Taruo (normal) get loaded on a vessel bound for Freeport in the Bahama (wrong) which then should have been rerouted up to NY (destination) or if they had reached out about the mistake I could have accepted in Philadelphia (freeport to PHL is a very common shipping lane) but instead they sent it back to Spain where it got transshipped to England and transshipped again to make it's way back to NY (destination). It should have been 3 ports, 2 boats with a 19 day sail time. Instead it ended up at 6 ports, 5 boats with a little over 90 days from loading on the first vessel until arrival.

Front edge of the hood, bottom of the tailgate, and of course the hinges.

It's about a 7 hour trip by highway so my guess would be by rail

bottom of the tail gate is suprising. How heavily do you get salted where you live?

Probably a little heavier than normal. Michigan doesn't take care of roads very well, but they do dump some salt.

My F150 with more miles and a year older doesn't have any corrosion.

F150 has a bit more going for it than a Glady does. But I don't think your truck should have these issues regardless. Guys up in canada don't for the most part.
