Hey there, has anyone experienced diesel exhaust fumes in the cabin when the engine is under heavy load, there is a pretty steep hill on my way home, I am usually in 7th gear and holding 90km/h about 30 seconds in there is a strong exhaust smell. Dont have this issue at any other time, general driving is fine. Going to the dealer is not my favorite pastime, the last two times they blamed me for missing bolts etc after they worked on the car. They also charge $600 to diagnose any issue now, which means if they cant reproduce this I need to drive them 20km to this hill to prove a point and avoid the $600 charge.

Just looking for some pointers, perhaps i can find some tell tale signs or where to look for for a leak of this nature.

Cheers

One guy on here found his exhaust was actually cracked I believe at the downpipe bracket , I would start by inspecting the exhaust starting at the turbo. Another spot would be egr pipe connections under the hood.

I've owned diesels for a bit more than 30 years. They all have had the diesel smell. The Jettas were not as bad as the pickups I have owned. Still doesn't rule out an exhaust leak. When they used to smoke a bit leaks were easier to find.
