The route I went. Hope it works out. Basically trying to use the heated air from inside the camper to recirculate into the inlet. Tank is on the other side of the piece of wood. I've seen people not have an inlet for the air and they seem to work fine. As long as there is air for combustion and a exhaust port.

Yeah, the heater should draw air in from the heated space, either via a return duct or by being in the space. If you mount it in the space, make sure you’re using the really high quality exhaust clamps. Technically one failure mode is leaking of the secondary and primary loops but that’s less common than simple exhaust leaks. I would invest in a quality CO monitor if the unit is mounted in your sleeping space.

So what clamps did you end up using on the fuel line? As well as what fuel line did you upgrade to? Links please

Clamp:
Eberspacher Espar or Webasto... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KM0IKJU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Fuel line kit: It’s critical to use the right kind of line. It needs to be small diameter and rigid. What I’ve read comes down to “don’t get creative.”

Tavaski Fuel Pipe Line Hose Clip... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NFNL1Y2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Filter:
Eberspacher Espar heater in-line... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019IPDHBG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Hose barb case penetration:
Joywayus 1/4''ID Hose Barb... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q3D8XGZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Exhaust pipe (the ones that come with CDHs suck)
36061296 90394 Exhaust Pipe 24mm with Clamps Replace Webasto Eberspacher https://a.co/d/8DihqiH

Exhaust heat shielding:
Heat Wrap Shield Sleeve For Wire... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RGVJ2Q8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Port for hot air:

Exhaust hull penetration:
TINGZHIGO Straight Thru Hull... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LCK2XS8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I increased the diameter of the intake and used smooth bore silicone automotive hose. These are the connectors I used for those:
ICT Billet 1-1/4" to 1-1/4" Inch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KQF8YF2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Electrical connectors (I love these things for projects):
CNLINKO Quick Electrical AC DC... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0813KPB4C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The thing that comes with these CDHs is not an air filter. It’s not even a muffler. Throw it away or give it the cats to play with. You do not want insects getting into the air intake. I used a real filter:
K&N Vent Air Filter/ Breather:... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029WXTK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is the same case planar heaters uses:

Thanks for the share. Winter camping is upon us again, and looking at a few tweaks to my CDH I built last year. Kicking myself for not thinking about rotopax! Would love to see a pic of your case pass through etc in regards to the fuel lines. Think I’m going to add Roto and take out my external with quick disconnects.

I chose not to add a breather because they tend to leak but they exist. I haven’t actually seen one on one of these heaters fuel tanks or in the kits. I leave the outer RotoPax cap a little loose on the standpipe when in use to allow a little air venting to prevent a vacuum.

any water intrusion you've been able to notice by going that route? Snow/rain camping very common for me...had a breather that wasn't horrible in my current setup, but leaking would still occur if not cautious.

That’s the copper tubing that goes down into the fuel tank. By drawing from the top you eliminate the possibility of leaking from a fitting drilled into the tank. In other words the tank isn’t compromised. Also you can change out tanks easily since the top of the standpipe seals against standard fuel canisters. I’ve got a typical dual RotoPax mount, so I’ve got two tanks of fuel, but I could also use some other tank if need be. Longer standpipes are designed to go down into the vehicles fuel tank opening to draw from that tank. There’s a single penetration in the case for the fuel line, but overall it’s less integrated. So I could replace all the fuel lines in a matter of minutes if need be.

@Wolf Island Diver I have a few questions on this. Can you please elaborate a little more on your rotopax & stand pipe set up?

When you are traveling you mentioned you're detaching your rotopax from the diesel heater and have them mounted on your external rotopax mounts. Is this still the case now that you've used it for a while?

What I'm wondering is how are you mitigating the fuel coming out of the stand pipe once you've detached the rotopax? Do you have a fuel shut off valve somewhere preventing diesel from traveling backwards out of the fuel line?

Do you have a simple solution for how are you enclosing the stand pipe (& the diesel residue) once you've removed the rotopax & traveling?

Can you please link which stand pipe you're using? (maybe I missed it in your parts list you posted) I've used a different variation of this stand pipe and mine leaks like a sieve but yours looks secure.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I’m pretty sure the standpipe came with the Vevor heater. I don’t see one in my order history. The same heater now doesn’t show the standpipe it may not have then either. They seem to package these with random stuff. I don’t see why one of these would leak. It’s just copper tubing. Where it seals against the top of the fuel container it may leak, but I use the Rotopax cap when moving. I pull the standpipe out and cap it with a piece of the rubber connector hose that’s used to join the fuel line that I’ve sealed off. You could use some other rubber cap. You may lose prime taking it out like this, but my bottle priming method works fine. I don’t prime with the pump. I just wipe down the standpipe and strap it to the top of the heater. The bigger issue is securing/storing the ducting.

Once the Rotopax is removed, it’s just a Rotopax. I hear they leak. Mine hasn’t leaked. I haven’t use mine this year.

Thanks for your reply. The reason mine is leaking a little is due to installing a smaller stand pipe through the original cap itself & just not happy with how messy it's been. I just found a similar stand pipe to yours on Amazon so I'll see if I can have better luck with that. Yes, I've been thinking about getting a cap or maybe even a quick disconnect.

Thanks,
