When I bought my JT. I didn't realize that my roof edging was cracked from the dealership. The section doesn't affect the structure of the roof. So I decided to add some rubber trim to it. It's pretty straight forward. I bought 32 feet of car door rubber trim. It cost me about $10 on Ebay. It worked perfectly and looks oem. I kind of like the look over stock. I would still do it, even if I didn't have any damage to protect the roof edge. It looks pretty weak and brittle.
1. Remove Roof Panels
2.Pull about a foot or two of the 3m red strip off. To expose the glue foam
3. Starting from the passenger side. Hold The Rubber Trim and fold it at a 90 degree angle to open it. It is far easier to install this way. Start to apply AFTER / behind the twist lock. (It will catch the rubber if you apply it where the locking mechanism locks the roof.)
4. Install and run it along the bottom edge of the trim all the way across.
5. At the end cut a little extra. Once it is measured perfectly, cut to fit before the locking mechanism on the driver's side. Matching the passenger side.
6. Using a dime. I ran it across the rubber on the inside to get an even application all the way across. This will be helpful to get it to stick better.
7. Carefully reapply the roof panels without touching the trim. It will probably take a day or two to stick better.
*Start install from drivers side if you are left handed for ease of installation
*Make sure to apply on a warm sunny day, 70 degree+, to get it to stick. No humidity. Wait a day or two for it to stick.
