Buying soon and know the dealership owner through work so am not worried about getting a good deal but am wondering what I shouldn’t miss when buying. Looking at a Sport with hard top, trailer tow package, spray bedliner, 8-speed transmission, trac-loc differential and heavy floor mats. I really don’t need much, if anything else as this will mainly be on the pavement going to work and back. He suggested maybe upgrading tires and wheels but if they seem too expensive, I’ll do that later. Sticker is $41K, posted price is $37K, not sure yet what he’s going to charge me.
All that said, is there anything you suggest adding or regret not getting when you bought? I’m not a fancy guy and don’t even mind the crank windows ;), my wife looked at me like I had lost my mind when I told her it came with cranks.

My first post and I’m reading a lot with lots more to go so if this has been covered, I apologize but need to move rather quickly. A woman tore the front end off my car and we weren’t planning for a new car purchase! Cheers.

Keeping it simple is fine, I really like the AWD Select trac transfer case giving you the ability to throw it into AWD for driving snow on roads that are marginal for 2WD but not enough slip for 4WD. Proximitly door locks I never had, still don’t but wish I had ordered them along with the aux switch group….Jack

Looks like a solid build to me. Just know the trailer tow package and max tow package are not the same. The most significant difference is Max tow comes with 4.10 gears instead of 3.73's and the axels are a bit wider.

Also a lot of people regret not getting aux switches, if you ever plan to add some lights, a winch, or other things. They can be added later, but i understand it's a bit of a pain

I would also opt for the Selec-Trac 4Auto system for only $695. My trip to work this morning was a deluge of rain with lots of ponding on the roads ranging from a few inches to about a foot. Just pop it into 4Auto and forget about it.

Thanks y’all. I do plan to eventually add some lights and a winch so aux panel makes sense. And this one is automatic transmission. I won’t tow anything heavier than our kayak trailer; it’s really light.

Have a friend who has a bare bones Willys and his one regret wasn’t the lack of power winders, but rather the lack of power door locks. This becomes an even bigger deal if you have kids or will frequently have rear seat passengers. Having to reach back to unlock doors gets old quick, and when it’s raining out you get some unhappy rear seat passengers waiting for you to get their doors unlocked. I would definitely look at a Sport S as a minimum starting point after my buddy’s experiences.

I may still reach up to a Sport S or Overland but the power locks/windows thing isn’t a big deal. My kids have their own cars and seldom ride together. Daughter just got her first apartment so she graces us with her presence occasionally when she’s hungry, lonely or needs money ;)

100% agree! Good call. The lack of power door locks will get old real quick.

Yeah, y’all might be right on that. I can’t remember a time I didn’t have keyless entry, it may be a PITA.

I am a fan of basic Jeep buys because these things are Lego sets. All you need is a solid foundation and for just about everything you can imagine there is an aftermarket or fabricators solution.

I'd look at things you'd likely want but probably wouldn't make sense in the aftermarket... door locks, AWD, lane assist if you like that, etc.

Keyless entry got better when i found the setting to unlock all doors on first press or for proximity unlock all doors instead of just passenger.

I almost always have my wife riding next to me and it always got old when she'd pull the handle when i was trying to hit the unlock a 2nd time and we'd have to do that unlock handle grab dance.

Getting all to unlock at once for proximity on her Subaru is nice for similar reasons. She doesn't drive so hoping between 3 vehicles i forget where the unlock button is.

I liked the overland for the leather and a bit more upscale interior, heated seats is a MUST for me cause winter. I've also gotten used to and love the automatic climate, set the temp and let the computer do it's ting just like in the house. Track lock LSD is something i really wanted as well. I wish i had gotten the truck bed power outlet, because i've heard it's a PITA to add later. I don't know what i'd use it for but i'm sure i'd find a use if I had it.

@Jaxmax - For snow, how is the Select trac different than 4-Hi? Current TJ (2 door Wrangler owner) which is my only experience in snow. Does Select trac make it act more similar to AWD?

You can put it in four wheel anytime, all the time, but really I pull the lever , even in rain, boat ramps, up hill snow driveway, but snowe if you are driving along and hit a patch of snow or ice, you really can't reach the lever and go into 4 hi quick enough, then take it back out, then in, just put in Auto 4H and drive happily along! It wasn't avalible in 2020, I waited to get it and no regrets, But it's more money......Jack

I would second this- 4WAuto is a good option to go for and fir tgis you will need to choose “selec trac 4x4” transfer option. Although driving in this option constantly can be a bit more noisy at certain speeds than driving in 2H, but I guess it is expected!

Had considered a basic Sport until I did some extended test drives with different trims.
Quickly found power windows/locks was something I did not want to do without.

Having a soft top and running it open when ever I can, I would not want to go without power windows.
I am always "tuning" the windows for noise/wind, particularly the back ones when the roof is open.
Doing that with cranks is a pain and impossible to do on the fly.

In general lack of power locks was also a pain, as we do use all 4 doors a lot even when its just my wife and myself going shopping.

Beyond that, the upgraded Proximity locks is the only thing I wish I had got.
