Door check bolt threading is missing

Hi All,

I took the doors off of my JT for only the second time. When I went to reinstall the back passenger side door, the threading for the door check bolt was missing. I searched both here and the Wrangler forums but have yet to figure out the next steps on how to fix this. I have kids and really do like the door check being attached. Has anyone experienced this? Is it a nutsert situation or is the bolt threading welded to the inside of the door? Thanks in advance for any help!

Just take it to the dealer and they should install a new nutsert under warranty.

Yeah, good point, but if that's a nutsert, where's the other? Inside to RATTLE around?
So I'd track this puppy and if you ever have a rattle - you may know the cause.
Looks like they have a problem - two of you have said you had this issue.

Yeah, I think there is a something like a welded nut back there. Mine is still on the bolt, but the bolt spins free. I was preparing to take my back doors off when it made a little snap sound/feel and started spinning. I can back the bolt out if I pull on it and hold the "nut" tight to the body, but I don't want that nut to drop off and float around somewhere.

As a followup, went to the dealer and they hadn't see this issue yet. They are going to spot weld the threading bag on in addition to seeing if they can fiddle out the broken piece. Will update when I have more!

Yes, all was covered under warranty. I was told there isn't a way to get in that part of the frame. They were able to touch weld a nutsert from the outside and reattach the door catch. Back to normal!

They also put a nutsert in mine. I finally got around to getting it done this week!

Yep, left rear for me. There’s definitely an issue with the welds on those weld nuts. I have been an autoworker for 21 years. It wasn’t x threaded, it just spun as soon as I applied pressure to remove it . Oh well, we use riv nuts on the regular, they work well. I will later drag the Lincoln MP welder out and put one back on correctly.
