Door hold open rod

Our door hold open rod seems to have retracted back to the closed position when the door was last removed, has anyone experienced a similar situation? I tried using an allen key or something to pull it out, but it didn't work. Don't know how to get it back out and put the screws in, now the screws can't reach the threaded holes
Our door can be closed normally, but it can only be held in position by the limit strap on the wiring harness.
Not sure of the correct name for this part, I tried searching on the forum and couldn't find a similar topic.

It’s a door brake. Grab hold of it with a screwdriver through the holes, or wrap a rag around it and use vice grips, and pull like hell. It should expand back out.

You could cut a 12" piece of grass trimmer cord. Double it over, run looped side through hole. Run the loose ends through the loop. Take a pair of vice grips and attach to loose ends. Begin tug of war.

The problem was solved, I tried to pull it out hard, but it didn't work.
Later, I opened the door a little and tried to tighten the original T40 screws. It was a bit difficult and I could only tighten it slowly with my fingers. After the threads were inserted deep in, I opened the door. There was a pop and the door stop was reset. I guess it was stuck inside.
I took some photos, hope they can help others who have the same problem in the future.

Take a piece of rope or mule tape and tie a loop in one end. Tie a slip knot in the other leaving about a foot in between. Put the slip knot over the door check, your hand through the loop and give it a sharp, quick tug. It’ll pop right out.

With the door back on the truck, I put a zip tie (or rope) through the screw hole in the door check and then tightened the loop around the screw and just pinched it under the screw head. Then gently open the door and it will come out like normal, remove the screw and zip tie (or rope) and put the screw in.

I like the ziptie idea. Seems pretty straightforward.

I’ve also used the long torx driver to put through the hole of the door check and into the threads on the truck and slowly opened the door to get them back out.

Changing of the seasons means I’ve gotten used to the door checks being in place, and now I’m whipping the door open expecting the checks to slow it down ?

I used rope once, wire once, and string a couple times. But after about a year and a half of making that mistake and having to keep doing that, I just pushed them all in. Especially since I frequently take my doors off.

I hate those things. If I had a nickel for every one I had to fix/repair when I worked at BMW, I could have retired at 55, in real style.
