Something... something... software.
I'd watched several of Eddie's videos on the [Banned Site] channel on YouTube. So I decided to become a member on the [Banned Site] forum. Got the typical you'll get an email when an admin approves your account message. A few days later I got an email that says:

"spanishmack, unfortunately, the account you registered on [Banned Site] Jeep Forum did not meet membership requirements. Your account is no longer accessible."

WTF? I mean, it's a private site and people are allowed to do whatever they want, but would it kill someone to give a courtesy reason? I emailed back asking why and haven't got a response. I found some of the videos really useful, but I'll be damned if I watch anymore and contribute to his YouTube revenue.

Are you using a VPN? I've been blocked from registration (on different websites) because I'll register on my business computer which has a VPN turned on by default.

Looking at your occupation, I'd guess that's the most likely reason.

There is a lot of boot licking at the altar of Eddie over there. I will be a hypocrite and admit I watch and actually enjoy most of his video. With that preface though, I have heard enough info to know there is a public facing side of him and a business side of him with his forum, YT account and sponsors that seems to be a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality. His forum is not very inviting and very cliquish.

From what I recall going back a few years in the early YT days when monetizing channels became a thing and he was working his way through that, there was a big falling out with some big names in the Jeep Off Road industry were it split into two camps with him because of some shenanigans on his part. You mention a few choice vendors nowadays over there and it is for certain a dog pile if not outright banning.

I have mixed feelings and reactions to some of his videos. I was quite surprised that in a couple of them he seemed to either not know, or even struggle, with some suspension parts and was a bit clumsy with some of it. (didn't appear knowledgeable or professional in those)
(I think one was related to control arm swaps)
Others - sort of informative.
So I take 'em or leave 'em, mixed thoughts.
But I feel that way about a lot of the videos out there as well.

I had no idea he was so controversial.. but I didn't watch him very much.

I think he had an accu-air air ride system on one jeep, the type of system that people usually put on sports cars, and that proved to work out about as well as you'd think. Satisfied some of my curiosity though, at least.

I really appreciate that I'm naturally not interested in closely following influencer or celebrity personalities. lol

I normally don't watch him. Only if something new comes out and he does a review of it. Then I use a grain of salt with it. The only thing that really caught my eye is when he reviewed the Ohlins shocks. I've used Ohlins in the past. I love them.

IIRC.. There was a public flame war started when he bought his property a few years ago that had some trails some in the SxS community were using. I guess it borders public land and people got pissed when he pushed back when they refused to stop driving through his property. I generally enjoy the WAL site. But you'd be right when you say it can be cliquey and there are a lot of people that worship Eddie. I've never had an issue with him personally, but my interactions have all been online
