I've done it once or twice. There's a bell alert but it typically comes on after I get out and re-enter the jeep. The cab was nice and toasty too! :)

I got home early the other day from work and my wife had plans to go out with her friend for lunch so I kissed her good bye and threw her the keys and said, have a great time. (If only I could see into the future)

When she was done and coming home, she calls me to say she accidentally left the truck running in the busy parking lot FOR THREE HOURS while she was enjoying the time with her friend over lunch and laughed about it! She said the engine was so quiet, she couldn’t hear it running and thought it was off.

My very 1st thought was, “what would ShadowsPapa say about this??”

My second thought was…I can’t repeat it here.

This second engine is very quiet and I do hope no damage was done. Omg

Cat-back exhaust mod will prevent this from recurring.

We used to idle cop cars for hours. Especially on graveyard shift. Other times on a scene where the overhead lights and radios had to be on. We would leave the unit running so as not to kill the battery. I carried a spare key so I could lock it while running.

Never had an issue and some of those old Crown Vics are still going.
I’ve left a Crown Vic idling at least 6 hours at a time. This happens a lot. Got to power the lights

A lady in my commuter lot, left her BMW SUV idling for over 10 hours. She forgot to push the button at 0630! Was still on when I returned from work at 430pm.

Funny story...

I use to have a Dodge minivan that was a work vehicle.. Of course I used it to haul my TJ to the trails and back.. I would always sleep in the back and leave the engine running all night to keep warm while camping.. Did this for 3 years straight and never had an issue! I believe it was the 3.8l V6.
Just saying I wouldn't worry about idling for a few hours.. ;)

No, what's silly is calling others silly for asking about something they:
A. Don't directly know about, have no background in that would give them an answer.........
or
B. Are finding conflicting information when they try to, on their own, find an answer so they don't get mocked for asking.

If it was so silly, why is the internet so full of bull crap about this very topic, where people guess or claim they know and have it wrong... if it was silly, then every post on all places would have the exact same answer instead of some saying "you ruined it".

Silly is assuming, and being wrong, when you could have easily asked a community of people, some of whom have real experience.
Silly (or stupid) is the unasked question.

(I hope you aren't a teacher)
what a silly thing to complain about.
