Banged out this cover for the bed lights switch mounting plate in Fusion and then printed it from TPU to prevent inadvertent switching and get rid of sharp edges. A 3d printer is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

I just take a millimeter caliper and make some measurements and then draw out a sketch in Fusion 360. I hate Fusion. It’s the worst Autodesk product and probably worst CAD program I’ve used, but it’s free and allows export of full resolution STLs. Sometimes I have to iterate over designs, which wastes filament. My inflation hose mounts have required at least a spool of filament if not 2. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/diy-slide-out-w-sink.74944/post-1334761

I got lucky with this one. It was a bit tight, but TPU stretches well and is forgiving. You get better with CAD the more you play with it. Shapr3D is much more intuitive to use and seems far less buggy but it’s an expensive $299 a year. I may switch over to that. I certainly won’t pay for an Autodesk or Adobe product. I’ve gotten past the learning curve with Fusion and now just deal with all of its bugs and limitations.

I need to spend more time working with the applications, but time at a keyboard is tough when I’d prefer to be outside in the summer. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had surgery and went into 3d printing frenzy while recovering. And I’ll set up outside on a laptop or do work in the evening. My job also gives me massive amounts of free time or “multitasking” time. I definitely wouldn’t trade driving the Jeep and doing stuff with it for sitting at a computer. I work in tech and personally, I’d be happy living in a cabin with no computer or internet.

Me too! I’m a network engineer, and I’m so done with that screen. Just get me outside.
