Anyone here use the EOC transmission tune and actually tow a load?

I am seeing some odd behavior with the EOC transmission tune when towing. It seems to shift quickly out of 2nd gear, sort of lugging 3rd gear… and when decelerating it downshifts into 2nd from 4th (skipping 3rd) and really spiking the ROM to almost 3000rpm. This is on an ecodiesel, so 3k rpm is a bit much.

also, when moving slowly in my neighborhood and parking lots. 1st, 2nd and 3rd act funny, sort of inconsistent as if the transmission algorithm is conflicting, the display on the dash shows the gear flight between 1 and 2 as well as 2 and 3 when it’s in the indecisive mode…

without a load, the shifting is great… 3rd gear may be a little short, but everything seems nice.

I’ve got it and it shifted just fine when I towed a camper trailer. I think it holds onto 2nd gear to a higher rpm than the other gears, that’s my only complaint But sounds like yours is actually having some issues for sure

Oddly, without my trailer, it seems 2nd hangs on a little long … when towing my trailer 2nd is quick to upshift to 3rd, and also quick to downshift into second to engine brake at unusually high rpm

how heavy is your trailer …

it’s about 3500 lbs. it’s been a while since I’ve towed with it. I’m assuming you put some miles on the jeep with the tune before trying to tow with it?

Not many, mostly around town, perhaps 50-100miles before hitching up.

Why not just shift the transmission manually?

If what I installed was the proper behavior of the tune, I WOULD NOT install the tune … the behavior towing was not confidence inspiring for the longevity of my transmission …

I went back to stock … I may or may not try again, just in case I did something wrong or there was a fluke in my installation, perhaps I needed more time on the tune for the learn function… I just don’t know and I still haven’t received a response from EOC.

I’d try reinstalling the tune but put some miles on it if it’s shifting good without a trailer and see if it just needs to learn the shifting points. But if it’s not shifting good without a trailer then there might be something actually wrong with it. Mine shifts and pulls the trailer great. Holds gears and upshifts nicely going down hills.

Do you ever notice that it aggressively uses second gear (skipping 3rd) when downshifting ???

do you use the gear indicator on your center gauge cluster? At low speeds, like pulling into your neighborhood doing 15-20mph do you ever see the gear indicator quickly flip between 2 and 3 ???

I agree with you, I may trying

mine doesn’t skip any gears when shifting that I recall. Also it only shows what gear its in when i put it in manual shifting mode. Are you using a tazer? Wondering if maybe that has something to do with it. If so I’d unmarry that and then give it a try.

Nah, it’s in the menu from the factory to show the current gear … it will be a small number next to the “D”, kind of like “M” does in manual mode

Interesting yeah mine doesn’t show that I guess. Well hopefully EOC gets in touch with you here soon. Sounds like they need to send you a different file to upload maybe.
