This is what I suggest.

Remove the aux battery negative cable, insulate the end, and tie it back out of the way.

Pull fuse f42 to disconnect the power control relay.

Buy and install a H7/group 94 EverStart battery from Walmart.

Your truck will function the same on one battery as it does on 2. Better yet, having just one battery takes all the mystery out of what to do if your start getting "messages" from your Jeep.

Why would I do this?^^^

The ESS doesn't bother me; though a lot of guys seem to have conniptions about it. I'd not intentionally disable a factory feature. Yeah, it'll cost me a few batteries over the years but if that's all it does, I'm fine with it. Like I said before, the truck hasn't given me a single issue for the two years and 25,000 miles I've had it.

Dan, I was making a suggestion for the original poster. Unlike you, he has had some trouble. Also, if you look through the numerous threads regarding ESS and batteries on this forum, you will find a lot of problems that took a lot of time and money to repair. Disconnecting the aux battery simplifies the battery/charging/starting system. Using just one battery, I can easily track the condition of that battery via the dash voltmeter.

Ok, I get it. And I've read a number of threads on the ESS subject and it DOES seem as though it just adds unnecessary complexity to a usually reliable system: starting & charging. I suppose it somehow helps Jeep keep it's MPG up to meet some regulatory requirement?

Oh well, I'll keep mine functioning for as long as I own this truck. I usually keep my trucks 6-8 years.
