Maybe that is why they only gave me so much when I was checking. I have changed the front bumber, added the winch and put on the Rubicon take off tires on mine.
I speculate it is due to liability and their warranty they offer when they sell a vehicle. They have a pretty good cover just about everything 3 month/ 3 thousand mile warranty on every vehicle they sell. They probably do not want to deal with resolving previous owner aftermarket installs.

Could be. Funny thing when my wife was looking at possibly trading her car for a new Hyundai. We had taken my truck to the dealership. The manager looked at it and said please tell me that is the vehicle you are trading in cause I could sell that in a flash. I told him no sorry my truck was not in play. The dealership was loving it with what I had done to it but not so much at carmax. We have a new place around here called Car Squad and they seem to be similar to Carmax

I believe JL's and JT's will always bid higher in general at Jeep dealers. Not Carvana or Carmax. Those places capitalize on buying vehicles from folks that are looking to sell and walk without looking to make a purchase. No surprise that they will always low ball. And they will use any excuse to do so.

At Jeep dealers, a higher percentage of their clientele is people looking for a Jeep. They know the demand and how long it may sit on the lot. And most dealers are willing to purchase vehicles outright these days because the used sales, service and body departments are keeping the lights on. Not a huge amount of $$ made on new vehicle sales.

And there is the regional thing as well. Some regions have red hot markets (Florida, Arizona, Nevada, etc.) for JL's and JT's and some markets not so much. If I really wanted to sell outright (not trade) I would shop as many Jeep dealerships as possible.
