those estimates don't really seem that far off from each other, honestly. You could probably have 3 estimators from the same dealership give you 3 different numbers. I had a bigger spread than that when I sold my 2008 JKUR. Just take whichever has the best deal or use the other deals to leverage a better deal at your preferred dealer.

But really...how many people can actually afford to do that, and how many people can take 10 days off of work at a whim to do so and then drive said vehicle back home.
It took me 2 days to drive from North TENN, to ST Louis to pick up parts off another member, then to drive home to ATX. It cost me $100 for a night at a holiday in, ~$250 for a one way plane ticket if you cant drive (I drove), and lets say you have to use 1 vacay day. Add in a little extra for gas and food, lets call it $500-1,000 in travel expenses to save $10-15,000.

The better question is, who can afford **not** to travel and get the best deal. Times are tough for a lot of people, doesnt it make sense to spend a lil to save a whole lot? If you cant afford to a couple hundred bucks in gas and hotels then buying a $50k truck is probably not wise, anyways.

This right here is a good point. However.....

Again, geographic location is a HUGE factor.. It seems like most folks suggesting flying to an area for a vehicle live in the southeast or at least of the plains. For me to drive to St Louis (is that where grupton is?) (all these huge 10K plus discounts seem specific to the Southeast) is a 5 hour flight (not including the 2 hour transport to the airport - which means someone needs to be willing to do a 4 hour trip to take me to the airport, etc) at 500 bucks. Then its a 1,600 mile drive back home, maybe about 470 bucks, with 24 hrs of solid driving - about 3 days, so thats 3 hotels, another 300-500 bucks. So your talking 4 days of travel, not including an extra day or two for the dealership, plus immediately putting 1,600 miles on a brand new rig just to get home, and 1500 for travel. So at the drop of a hat telling your boss you need a week off? Not to mention medical conditions which prevent such on sporadic movement. Not everybody can do this. IE. I CANNOT do that. So the point of comparing quotes on a nation wide basis is just not feasible for everybody here. Ie. me.

I am jealous of folks that could get a $50,000 truck for under 40K. I truly am. But, not a option for this guy. Thus, comparing vehicles in a region with such discounts presents a unrealistic situation. So specific locations should always be included in these discussions so that people who know where they can and cannot realistically go don't get caught up in the 'cheapest' option which may not even be a realistic option for them. Its awesome to know 10K discounts exist in St Lous. In western Montana/Idaho/Washington, those discounts do not exist.

I don't think 3k is all that much different from one another. The F150 I traded in one Gladiator, I had 7k difference between the two dealsherips, only about 120 miles apart. Guess which one I went with.

I think one of the discount dealers mentioned in the Ordering section is located in northern Idaho. Been a while since I looked.

A little over a year ago, I sold to Carmax my 2020 Rubicon for $47K with 31K miles. Sticker was $52K and I originally paid $46K with below invoice pricing.

Me personally, I think the $41K offer is fair. The price bubble peaked like 3-4 months ago and dealerships are stuck with a lot of used inventory they have overpaid for. Given that and increased repo rates and on the cusp of a pending recession, wholesale pricing is only going to course correct and trend downwards.

That being said, there is no crystal ball predicting the market where it should be. Just like when buying, trading in and selling there is no two transactions the same even when other factors like mileage, vehicle age and options are the same.

Especially if you are selling to a dealership, they are basically bidding for your business and trying to be high enough to get your business but low enough to still make a decent profit.

Another one here that feels like I did well with my purchase. There are so many variables during the purchase of a vehicle. It tends to cloud judgement about deals that others say they got.

My local dealer locked in a price that equated to 8% under MSRP. Perhaps that Tennessee dealer everyone talks about could have beaten the price by a couple grand, BUT would they have allowed the same price for my trade? Would they have locked in a trade offer for my 2020 Ram that was 3K over what I paid for it new in 2019? And would they have made this promise during the state of the market at the time (Feb '22) while my JTM was on order, no matter how long it took for it to come in? Doubtful. Not to mention the costs involved in getting that vehicle that is (for example) 1,000 miles from home.

My deal was done from the first day I placed the order to when it came in on the transport with nothing but a handshake. This is why I chose to do business with my local dealer because the whole process was built on trust.

In the end, it was a very fair and convenient deal for me. ;)

Fyi Kicking this thread back up, I went to carmax today (Fort Worth Tx)and got offered $36k for 2020 Rubi with mopar 2 inch lift, 63000 miles. On the fence about upgrading to a newer gladiator. Was hoping for 40k. Pic for reference,

I can just say start stripping the aftermarket parts sell them separately because they have next to no value on trade in.
Agreed, if I do move to newer gladiator what I have now will definitely be put on the new or newer one.

Carmax especially like stock / unmodified vehicles easier for them to sell, generally modified vehicles go directly to auction. I would say that based on your miles the offer is pretty good.
I'm going to be selling my one in late June/July so I'm monitoring the market right now, plus I have to demod some items.

I was about to post the exact same thing. When I sold my 2020 Gladiator to CarMax, they told me before bringing it in the same thing that they would give me next to nothing for any mods and would give a low ball straight to auction pricing unless it came to them basically stock.

Hell I may be tempted to go back to my Ram 1500 but its going to be hard to do. Guess a lot depends on where my daughter ends up going to school and if its Arizona the drive there back and forth to visit multiple times a year would be much better done in the Ram than in the JT. But dang the ram just isn't as fun as the JT. Guess it would have to be some kind of hell of deal to get me out of this thing
Just for the hell of it during all the crazy I was offered around $45,000 for my 2020 Sport S Max Tow at which time had about 24,000 miles on it. Just last week I was curious to see what offers I would get from the likes of Carmax, Carvana. Currently I have 30,500 miles on the truck and the best offer was for $35K. So quite a bit of drop. Even my wife's 2017 Toyota Highlander Platinum which was being offered close to $50K has now dropped to around $35k

Maybe that is why they only gave me so much when I was checking. I have changed the front bumber, added the winch and put on the Rubicon take off tires on mine.
