Keep us informed. I’m sure there’s interest beside me, lol.I'm in the process of getting the parts for this mod.
For the connector, I am planning on adding pins and terminals to the door connector using some of the unused positions (68316927aa and 68316928aa are the parts that I bought). I am using the following site to determine the pin assignments and terminal/pin part numbers
http://connectors.dcctools.com/
Then just look at connectors xy600a and xy650a ... you will notice that there are two links for each connector (one is the body side and one is the door side)
Now I just need to get the mirrors ... I've had 2 suppliers back out after about a week
What type/thickness of wire did you use? And did you run each mirror to that particular sides turn signal? Or did you connect both mirror wires and then push just one through the firewall and connect to only one sides led turn signal? For my conversion, at the mirrors I used RC car battery connectors, they are inside the door through the mirror boot. Protected from the weather and if need to remove the mirror, both the factory connector is there and turn signal connector is there. Inside the mirror housing the wires are crimp connected with electrical grease and then sealed with heat shrink tubing. There is another set of battery connectors at the door wire assembly connector to remove the door.
It would be interesting to have the factory wire harness and did look into it, however no one stocked the harnesses and part numbers did not have a logical flow, from what I saw, to know you are ordering the right parts. Not terribly expensive, but it adds up for non-returnable parts.
The turn signals and the export mirrors are very nice. Much better mirrors than the US version plus I dont need to have the lick-n-stick little round mirror now.
Hardest part was getting though the factory firewall harness boot. Don't have a lift and couldn't find another spot. Will have to find a better spot when I update the audio system.
Wire was 18AWG, in-wall stranded cable, general purpose. Had it on hand, I do security/access/video for a living. 22AWG would be fine too, about what the factory wiring is. You need to run to each side front turn signal, just for the positive, ground is done at the door connector area in the footwells. What type/thickness of wire did you use? Any pics or videos of the completed project?Wire was 18AWG, in-wall stranded cable, general purpose. That was the easiest, probably another location to run to as well, nothing listed in any forms.
I did not take any pics. For paths, at the door, remove the door panel and follow the wiring down through the mesh jacket for the door connector to the footwell connection.Any pics or videos of the completed project?
Would the high altitude door harness be plug and play to get the lightsI did not take any pics. For paths, at the door, remove the door panel and follow the wiring down through the mesh jacket for the door connector to the footwell connection.
Inside the mirror, if not using the factory harness, you can follow the wires to the euro light, listed above are the wire colors. You can squeeze through the rubber gasket that goes between the mirror the door. Keeps it water proof. I did put a quick disconnect inside the door/mirror as well if it ever needs to be replaced, but just splicing the wire together will be fine. I did use dielectric grease at everything to keep the water out/avoid corrosion.
