Dang dude that sucks. Only been on for 3 weeks and learned a lot from your post. I know your gonna love that Eco Diesel, that would be the only way is get rid of mine, if they offer a JT in a Eco Diesel, or Hemi. Hate to see you go!

@WXman Sad to see ya go so soon. Loved my Ram I had years ago. That’s why I love my JTR. Best of both worlds. Truck and Jeep. Glad you got such a great deal on your new truck. Definitely keep us current on any issues and insight about the ecodiesel.

Be interesting to see what kind of mileage your getting on the truck. I know on my current ram 1500 I have the V6 and I get about 18-20 MPG in varied driving and a couple extra if I am just cruising on open highway. I am torn between getting a Jeep Truck with the V6 or waiting on the Diesel version to come out since mine will be daily driver and the extra mileage would be nice. But I have never had diesel before so no idea what I would be getting myself into. Also am assuming the Diesel will add some extra cost
I hope you'll stop back and share some of your experience and results with the new EcoDiesel. After seeing how it performs in the JTU I'm intrigued by that engine. I have 0 experience with diesel, so your matter of fact description of issues will be appreciated.
Well I'm 400 miles into the first tank, and the dash is showing 24.7 MPG. This has been a pretty even mix of city/highway driving. And it's not broken in yet. And we're on winterized fuel right now. So, the truck is exceeding the window sticker rating thus far, which is the experience most people seem to have with the EcoDiesel.

Took the truck across the CAT scale tonight and it was 5,420 lbs. with no occupants and only a small amount of personal items inside. That's about 400 lbs. more than the Gladiator I traded in, and likely less than what the Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel will weigh. I was shocked by that. So, with the Ram you're getting the same curb weight, same transmission, nearly identical axle gears, but 38 lbs/ft more torque than the Jeep version. In theory it should perform better.

Payload on mine is 1,645 lbs. but the math doesn't work out because the GVWR is 7,200 lbs. and the curb weight is 5,400 lbs. if you subtract my personal belongings which should net a payload of 1,800 lbs. Something odd going on there.

As far as the diesel adding cost:

Oil change quote from dealer = $250
Was scared to ask about fuel filter change, but the filter itself is $40 online and must be changed every other oil change
Oil capacity is 8.5 quarts, and they sell a 10 quart jug at Walmart for $56
Diesel is $2.60 here right now, so 26 gallons would make a fillup around $68
Every single repair part on this engine will be magnitudes more expensive than a comparable part for the Pentastar

So, yes, the diesel adds a lot of cost. Thankfully it does sip fuel, and it does have a 100,000 mile warranty.

Pic of the new truck attached. 2020 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 Bighorn - EcoDiesel - 3.92 gears - Level II interior package - North Edition (sort of a cross between off road package and sport appearance package) - Factory trailer brake controller - 20" wheel package

I would have left off that $1,595 wheel package because it's excessively priced, but, everything else on this truck is exactly the way I would have ordered it, and it was sitting on the lot here locally, and they had $16,100 off the sticker, so BOOM.

As far as all my JT mods... I removed everything of significant value except the 35" tires. They became part of the deal because the dealership flat out told me that "Gladiator sales are very soft. We need some way to differentiate this trade-in so we can try and sell it." I believe them...they've got several JTs sitting there not moving just like the other dealership 15 miles away does. So anyhow, I took off everything else and sold it all for cash very quickly through this forum and Facebook marketplace.

Appreciated your support of the Forum...
Did you remove your Hood Decal. That was cool... That had to be a little emotional.
You'll miss the stares and finger pointing.. Smile

I hope you luck with your ram... I had a gasser ‘19... spent more time at the dealership than I did driving it. Traded it in on my JT. Never looking at a ram again.

But how will we have discussions of unavailable factory brake controllers and Redarc installs? :CWL:

Just kidding with you, new truck looks awesome, best of luck with it. I will be interested to see how the diesel fares over time, I think it can be a game changer in the JT.

I had a 2014 Ram EcoDiesel 4x4 and enjoyed it for about 3 years...Hope you have a similar experience!
