And made some think they know everything.

See the oxymoron?
You're a smart enough fellow - and I bet we aren't very far apart on some of the stuff going on.
I see no reason to ruffle you any further with my blunt, unfiltered way I'm wired.
(and no, I know an IQ does NOT mean "common sense" or abilities to get along and converse, so many are way beyond me there)

If we were in the same room, we'd probably discuss and find a lot of common thinking.
I'll leave it at that.

And a couple of beers. 👍

Hey @PBCounty , I picked mine up today from service in Miami. Found rust on all hinges (2020 Mojave). Everything covered by warranty.

I’ve noticed my paint bubbling on a hood hinge and definitely around the windshield. The door hinges have no bubbling that I can see. There is some paint knocked off due to rocks on the door hinges. One hinge I can’t tell if it’s due to a rock, or corrosion. Thoughts? I have one year left before 5 years.

Does Jeep put some sort of gasket between the hinges and door panels now? Mine is a 2024 and looks like there is a layer of something in there.

The windshield frame is aluminum - nothing steel even close to those parts - prep or contamination, most likely.
Once the paint skin is compromised on something like those hinges (aluminum or magnesium or eve zinc alloy) it's just a matter of time as moisture gets under that paint and produces that white oxide which paint can't adhere to.

People think that carburetor bodies, alternator frames and so on are "aluminum" - a few parts are, but it's actually a zinc alloy in most cases. The proof is the fact I can make 'em bubble profusely in hydrochloric acid, or even zinc plate them. You can't zinc plate aluminum.

Good question - but the damage on his is due to paint chips. That's an alloy of some sort, - can tell by the white fluffy spotty oxide. That's how zinc or even aluminum and magnesium act. Definitely not a steel hinge. Steel rusts - aluminum, magnesium, and zinc oxidize in white spots.

I owned a 2019 Ram 1500 that had the same white corrosion on the driver's door seam in the door jam. It ran all the way around the door but could only be seen when the door was open. I never knew that the Ram 1500 had aluminum doors that were also covered by the corrosion warranty. It wasn't until I bought my Gladiator and joined this forum.

We learn something new every day. I can't count the number of things I've learned here! Lost track years ago.
The day I haven't learned something new I'm likely being carried out of a hearse to my spot on the hill.

I had a great talk with a tech at the dealership collision center. (I had time waiting for my rental as my wife's JLU gets worked on).
I asked him about the hinge corrosion........
He said "common, but not a given". They do a lot, but there's also a good chance it won't happen to you.
We talked about causes -
1. minor rock chips people don't notice. Breaks the paint seal, allows moisture under the edge and it goes from there. Address any chip, no matter how small ASAP.
2. He talked about the hinge replacement update with the zinc GASKET.
Yes, he called it a GASKET.
According to their findings, the cause is still water getting under the paint. He said the new hinge setup uses that zinc, a metal close to both the hinge and the aluminum door skin in "activity" (yeah, makes sense to me!), to act as a seal, or gasket (not what we'd think).
The zinc, being soft, but still hard, can be torqued down but comply enough to form a seal behind the hinge to prevent water getting behind the hinge and thus under the paint layer.
He said in all of the repairs they have done, none have ever done it again. Once they address it, it's fixed.
It sort of sounds like a paint and prep issue in many ways.
So he said - water getting under the paint is what's causing the door and hood hinge bubbling paint issue. Seal and rock chips right away. Any break in the surface of the paint allows moisture in, and then you see that white spotted oxidation.

Three of my doors hinges are corroding on my 21 Sarge.
Strangely enough the only one that has painted chipped off by a rock is the only one not corroding.

I can't wait to go through the ordeal of getting fixed. Ive seen plenty of nightmare stories on the Jeep Corrosion Facebook page with terrible paint match, etc.
I would just trade it in but the trade value absolutely blows.

Also I've had two aluminum F150s and one Alumiduty with zero corrosion. And none of the Aluminum fords in our work fleet have corrosion either.

That's how it is with Jeeps. Some will never see it, others will. Visit Ford truck forums.
It all just seems to show it happens but it's not inevitable.

Yep, and I heard that the ones that are garage kept and very well taken care of seem to be the ones that they see most often with corrosion.
