So, I recently discovered this sub box and subsequently ordered it. I installed it last week and I am very impressed with the build quality and sound output.
I have been trying to find a box for a single sub that fits under the rear seat without being oversized. I was planning to try and build one before I ran across this sub box from Fox Acoustics. The quality, fit and finish is top notch. I am using an old MTX Jack Hammer 10” and it sounds amazing n the box. The amount of airspace, provided by this box design, is almost an exact match to this sub. I could not be happier. Fox Acoustics had this thing to my door in about three days.
This is paired up with 4 JBL GTO 629 6.5” speakers in all the original 4” locations. I still have to install the kick panel speakers. I bought the replacement pods for the kick panels and the 6.5 adapter kit for the sound bar. I also replaced the 3.5” dash speakers with JBL Club 322F.
The amp is a Polk Audio PA D5000.5 5-channel class D.
There is no comparison to stock here. I did not have the Alpine system, but I have had it in three previous Ram trucks. Once I get the kick panel 6.5s in it will be perfect for my tastes.
I went with the JBL based on previous experience in low powered stock locations on other vehicles. A lot of aftermarket speakers never sound quite right without a lot of power. JBL is better tuned for reasonable power setups in my experience. I don’t want a huge amp install as it takes up too much space. The PA D5000.5 delivers 70x4 at 4-Ohms and 100x4 at 2-Ohms. The sub section is 200x1 at 4/400x1 at 2 and 500x1 at 1-Ohm. I am running at 4-Ohms currently. If I upgrade the sub I will use a DVC 2-Ohm to get the max 500 watt output.
