My e-brake was getting looser, finally it just let go of the cables, under the center console. You could hear the bolts/brackets jingling around... Stealership "fixed" it along with the cracking sound in the front door hinges... (the smeared white grease all over the hinge, and every where else... terrible.

Now the pass. side door is cracking (like a slow glass cracking sound) again when I open and close the door, and the E brake is totally loose again. Awesome. They had the jeep a week before, and got mad that I DIDNT use a rental vehicle. It got awkward.

I don't want to, but I might just re-attach it myself. Can't figure out the door creaking though...

My first one just came loose and they replaced the whole assembly, handle and all. Then I learned there's a nut on a bracket that occasionally backs off. I just take out the rear two center console bolts and shove an extension on and crank it back tight every now and again.

Just did my quarterly adjustment today. I will say that the sloppiness of the handle is a factor of 3 possible, not mutually exclusive, factors:
  1. Cable stretch which is normal for an e-brake, especially when you wrench it up hard holding the truck off road, and requires maintenance on other vehicles too.
  2. A defective handle, for which there’s a TSB (I’ve had this “addressed” by my former dealer)
  3. A crappy design that is inherently prone to sloppiness when not under tension.

Thanks, bit of rope, Chinesium inspection camera and micro 10mm wrench.

Other older Jeeps I’ve owned also had to have their ebrakes adjusted. On none of them, did the handle get laterally sloppy loose. This exercise always triggers my cognitive dissonance over having my favorite marquee being owned by a company I consider to make the worst junk cars in the industry.
