The thread update email reminded me to update my thoughts on the Spider shade...I contacted their support way back when regarding the fit, and their fix was to send me a replacement top without the center cutouts. It showed up some time in November. I waited til Spring to install it, and, after about a month of use, I’m not all that impressed.

I’m more than satisfied with the cheaper (2 pc) Alien shade on my wife’s JLU. The Spider shade on my JT is still fairly loose in the center, and it produces more wind noise than hers. It’s not bad enough to buy another brand immediately, but I’ll replace it sooner rather than later...probably should have just bought the JTop to begin with.

These two pics make clear why Jtops are the better choice. Access to the freedom panel latches, straps in place of elastic bands, and embedded aluminum rods to eliminate movement. I’ve had several different quality shades, but they’re all refinements on the same idea. The jtops guys really took it to a different level

OK got my mesh for $43.99 and installed it today in about 20 min while smoking half a Churchill :)

Some comments...
1. Do not see any need in connecting front 2 rings, it ain't going no where
2. Had to double up short loops for the 3rd ring as the long once were too long. Seems like the boll just big enough not to pass through the body and side panel, made it simpler
3. I have soft top only and could not find any place to hook the middle 2 rings in the back so left it empty (same as front) do not think it is going to make any difference
4. No problem closing and opening the top with the mesh on without removing any loops. Somewhat more difficult to do it because you have to do it now from the outside of the truck
5. I am 6.0 and just clear of the mesh, not sure if it can be moved up a little

I’m curious to see how it performs out on the road.

will let you know, it is easy to add 2 short loops in front if it is an issue, otherwise it is tight. One problem I could see is it rubbing on the roll bar in the middle, would be nicer to have 2 piece. but on the other hand, i do not drive at highway speeds with top down.

To be honest. And it wasn’t to offend. As you mentioned, adding two taught connections at the front would go a long way to prevent buffeting, which is the main culprit I see breaking your shade down prematurely. This is speaking from experience, having a cheap rugged ridge shade on my jk for a short time until it was shredded. I hope yours works out for you

What's the very back look like? Any sag with the amazon one? I made a rugged ridge eclipse shade for a JL 2dr fit.

Took it to just above 50 MPH and it felt very good. No wind inside and that is with the back window in place. I do need to lower my seat so i do not hit it with my head. Maybe i can reposition a little so it is riding higher. otherwise I got what I wanted and it performs to my expectations
