not sure if this is normal but when i pull the truck into garage and turn it off I can't use the little garage button on the visor. The truck has to be on to shut the garage. Never had a car or truck do that. Is there a setting I have off or is this normal on the gladiator. Need to know if I should take it to service. Been like that since day one

That is the way its built for security If the jeep was broken into outside they wouldn't be able to open the garage without turning the jeep on every car I have had with this has all been the same way Jeep, Hyundai etc.

NORMAL - it's in the user manual that it has to be on. This is because the doors and top can be removed. They don't want anyone to be able to access your door buttons if you leave it with top or doors off.

Not Grand Cherokee. The user manual says it's because of the removable top and doors.

The garage door opener could have been wired like headlights, radio, and electric windows to be powered up for a short time after the engine is turned off and still maintain the security aspect.

At least yours works. I found out my garage door motor is not compatible.

I'm trying to figure out how this would help - maybe I'm missing something.
Pull into driveway off road/street. You have a garage, the goal is to pull into the garage. The truck is running.
So you push the button to open the garage door.
OR,
You pull into driveway, shut engine off, wash truck, decide to park truck in garage - get in truck, start engine, open garage door, drive into garage.

Now that you are in the garage -
Truck in garage - engine running, push button to start garage door closing, shut off truck engine.
OR,
truck in garage, shut off engine, exit truck, enter house, push button to close garage door.

So what am I missing?
I have never needed to open the garage door with the truck off - I either open the garage door using the button in the house before I walk outside to the garage, or if I'm in the garage, use one of the buttons on the garage wall in the garage to open a door.
If I'm going to put the truck in the garage, I have to start it to do so anyway, if I'm in the garage and in the truck and want to exit the garage, I need to start the truck to drive it out anyway.....

I guess I must be missing something as several people wondered why the JT garage door opener buttons won't work with the truck off.

(we do NOT have an attached garage - cheaper insurance that way)

Depending on the brand of the opener, if you call them, they will take your vehicle information and might have a solution for you. Our XK did not work with our main stall garage at our last home. I was pretty annoyed as it rains a lot in NC and I didn't want to get wet if I were caught out in the rain. I called Chamberlain and they were aware of this issue with certain vehicles. They ended up sending me a small module that I plugged into an outlet in the garage. That module communicated with the opener and I was able to program the in-vehicle opener. Worth a shot!
