Thanks for the posts. I was wondering whether flexible solar panels would overheat and burn my paint. I wasn't aware that their output can decline so much when they are hot. Below is a good video on installing flexible panels. I like the use of Coroplastic placed under the panels as an insulation between the panel and roof. This would protect my roof, but I don't think it will help cool the temperature of the solar panels.

Does anyone have good experience with flexible panels?

Where to put the fridge or cooler in a JL or JT?

I've been playing around with my fridge location for the last two years. I put it in the back by the tailgate, on the bench in the camper, and in the cab back seats. I keep going back to one location because of ease.

The driver side back seat is perfect for a Fridge or Large Cooler. I find that I use the fridge more from outside the vehicle than inside, and opening the back door or reaching through the rolled down window is quick and easy. I can also get to the fridge from inside the camper or in the back seats.

I usually don't tie it down, as the arm rest captures it nicely behind the drivers seat. I can tie it down on the seat headrest and seat bracket for bumpy trails. It's also close to the stock Jeep Inverter or the 12v plug.

I ordered a Lone Peak Overland canopy camper. Not scheduled to be ready until October. But they combined features from a couple other campers that I liked into one unit for a price that was reasonable to me.

Pretty bare-bones, build, ordered it with the LED light kit, and a ceiling fan/vent, and a couple little odds and ends.

But now, for the next few months, I get to research all the different accessories for it.

Pretty bare-bones, build, ordered it with the LED light kit, and a ceiling fan/vent, and a couple little odds and ends.

But now, for the next few months, I get to research all the different accessories for it.

The camper is the starter kit! You need lots of toys to fill it up.

Oh yeah. I already have a nice fridge and barbecue. Building a custom slide for it. I have most of the supplies, just waiting on the aluminum angle to finish it up.

I'm thinking about a Rockies trip this summer. My problem is that I'm trying to fit too much into a 1-2 week trip. Let me know which places you like best and worst. I've got to cut out some of this.

St. Louis to Badlands of South Dakota, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Tetons, Arches National Park, Moab, and back through Colorado home.

From Moab, checkout Rimrocker trail, goes to Montrose in CO…
From Montrose you have options.
North: head to Marble, Aspen area.
East: black canyon of the Gunnison->Crested Butte->Buena Vista
South: Ouray, Silverton, Teluride areas… and the famed Alpine Loop

plenty more details on any of those areas if you would like.

Colorado is amazing no matter which direction to go. We do a 10 day trip here in CO every year, and rarely see the same place twice. Plenty of options for leisurely trails or technical…

When you get west of Billings I would suggest dropping down 212 into Red Lodge and over Bear Tooth Pass. I did it on my motorcycle a few years ago and you will see much more of Yellowstone that way. That is if it doesn’t blow up by then ?

Thanks, I haven't been to any trails in Western Colorado. Just been to a few around Winter Park and Breckenridge. You have to love a state with so many public dirt roads crossing the mountains.

Well the hardest part of planning this trip is finding camping sites in Yellowstone. I've reserved my camping sites there and even booked a room at Old Faithful Inn. Here's what the trip looks like so far.

St. Louis to Badlands, Black Hills, Red Lodge, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and swing back through Colorado on way home. I'll have to do the Southern route next time through Moab Utah.

Man, that trail looks better suited to my old CJ7. I'll check it out, but I'm not sure the Gladiator's length can make those switchbacks!

I want to do Black Bear Pass by Teluride CO, but I'm not sure a Gladiator can make this switchback.
