Sort of a simplistic or narrow view - sometimes you develop internet relationships, even distant friendships, the banter and so on, and you do end up missing that person when they leave - that connection is gone. OR maybe that member had valuable, factual insight into some issues, and now that's gone. Some have clever fabrication ideas, how-to's, or ask the questions others fear to ask for fear of the hard-core crowd coming after them.
To assume "nobody cares" is more like some of the younger people believe - that life IS the internet and there can never be any relationships outside of the internet.
…and that’s a damn shame…. that some of our society relies on the ‘internet’ to live their lives. “Life is the Internet”…. is a worrisome statement.
Not only for society in general, but for the future & wellbeing of those folks.

Please please please…for the love of god… If you know someone who thinks “Life is the Internet” - please, take their phone away, get them off the internet, take them for a ride in your Jeep, go for a hike, take a walk…visit your neighbors…. Get a job… Find a hobby, join a local club and meet REAL people, learn how to do CPR, Call your Mom or brothers & sisters, Sit on the patio and enjoy the fresh air…. Anything… Just breathe the fresh air and realize there’s sooo much more to life than the internet!!!

It's been a few years ago now, but there was a study done by one of the major new magazines or something like them that took 3 young women, aged about 19-21 as I recall, and told them to give up their cell phone for a time period I believe was like 3 days.
One of them literally had to have medical help - went into actual full withdrawal symptoms like any person addicted to anything like drugs or alcohol would - sweats, anxiety and so on. One quit - couldn't handle it. It was so stressful for them it was proof that it's an actual addiction. One of the co-creators of Fakebook even admitted as much - it was deliberately planned that was so that once in, you never wanted to leave, had trouble getting through the day without it.

Some major businesses have called in consultants to figure out why they have trouble with so many new hires - put them in a room where people have opinions or ideas contrary to theirs and they literally can't handle it. They get outraged. How DARE you!. They have lost the ability to read facial expressions and body language cues. Their life is emojis, thank you Apple for those ugly spooky images you make people really like (they creep me out, literally, like some primal thing. Apple's "emojis" are the most spooky creepy, out there)
Anyway, they can't handle "team meetings". They can't sit back and listen in a group.
My son and I have discussed this sort of thing at length many times - and he's seen it himself in the various places he has worked. He likes a "hybrid" work environment, especially since no one on his team is even in the same building, but still likes the fact that he can go to an office and interact with people personally. He says it's a whole lot easier on complex topics to actually be there in person, with the group.

Take care of yourself SP! Get better soon. I know it's killing you to have that new rig a few steps away but get some rest.

Thanks, yeah, Everything hit the same weeks - Barbara's quilting machine needed factory service, so I had to spend an hour or so taking it off the table (CNC driven), and a 2 hour drive to the factory, then my son and grandson visit, they leave back to Florida and I get sick days later, then the washing machine zonks out (17 years old, no use messing with replacing the control boards), crack in her JLU windshield which safelite totally screwed up and gouges the windshield frame badly so I have to run it out for repair estimates so they can pay for the body shop repairs, and yeah, that truck sits there BEGGING for things to be put into place!

ARRRRGGHHH! (oh, wait, we already did the pirate bit)

OTOH, I do bore easily.

Nice thing was that while I was sick (and her Jeep was getting windshield replaced), she could easily hop into my new JT and with the power seats she was able to move things around and drive it fine to go back up and get her repaired quilting machine.

I'm on the downhill of the infection. Things will be better this week.

Sold my Gladiator last year to a coworker because I was moving and thought the vehicle would be a nuisance to park in the larger city. Bought a Wrangler once I was in the city. Love my Wrangler but not as much as I did the Gladiator. Biggest thing I miss was the diesel engine and the cloth seats. My Wrangler is the Rubi X with leather. My first Jeep had leather too, not really a fan of it. Hopefully I'll get the next version of the Gladiator in 2028, but we will see.

Back in my day….. I took pictures of everyone (on a digital camera😆). I uploaded all of them on our website and I’d post a link so all the attendees could see the photos and download them.

It was never about one person…but always about the group ride.
