My Build Rules:
  1. Function over form: Yes I want it to look good (form) but more importantly it must work well (function).
  2. Quality trusted parts: Yes I have a budget but I am willing to stretch it to get good quality tested parts.
  3. Does not restrict daily use or drive-ability: I traded in my dream vehicle that I purchased new after building it online for 15 years straight. A 2017 Lexus LX570 fully loaded. After 2 years it barely had 10k miles on it and I hardly ever drove it. NOT THE GLADIATOR! It's my daily driver. You should enjoy your dream everyday in usage not as a trophy you look at and polish! My wife and I both traded in Lexus SUVs and got Jeeps. Its her 1st Jeep and she's now 100% Jeep girl and I like it!

I think Japan is upset if your trading in that fleet.

I did a lot of work on the Gladiator this weekend. Here is the list:

  2. I installed a black aluminum storage box to hold my 2nd battery, 3000 watt inverted, solar panel controller and other gear.42"x18"x16" Aluminum Pickup Truck Bed Trailer Key Lock Storage Tool Box (Black) https://www.walmart.com/ip/42-x18-x...ler-Key-Lock-Storage-Tool-Box-Black/693103375 Dual Battery Kit https://www.equipt1.com/products/portable-power-pack?_pos=6&_sid=1d379866f&_ss=r, Dual Battery Controller https://www.equipt1.com/products/dual-battery-controller?_pos=2&_sid=1d379866f&_ss=r, 3000 watt inverter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VPYV78E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like your build!

Iā€™m a huge fan of dual battery systems but Iā€™m discouraged as Iā€™m not going to spend the money involved in a Genesis system. Therefore I continue to be interested in a battery box - a DIY battery box.

Iā€™d like to learn more about what youā€™ve put together and the components youā€™ve used if you care to post a thread or provide more details. Thanks!

Thanks! Why such a high power charger with two batteries ( or did you already have this)?

Tell me about the wiring - did you run both hot and ground from the engine compartment? What gauge wire did you use? And lastly how did you get the wire into the bed?

Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll have a few more questions for you - I appreciate your information for sure

The kit came with 20 feet of 4 gauge black and red wiring with 100 amp fuse and Anderson plug to connect to the battery controller check the links they have all the details. I ran it under the JT and there is a hole with a plug in the lower right and left bottom of the rear wall of the truck bed. I choose a large controller for expand-ability, additional panels if needed, fridge etc...

So I decided to go a different route when it comes to badges for my JT. I spent many years in the military doing the craziest shit, stressing my body to earn badges (and the added pay and promotions that go with them of course). To the point that at 54 years old my knees and back remind me daily of the 50 times I jumped out of aircraft with full combat gear or repelled out of helicopters head first or damn near a year in combat with the 82nd Airborne Division and almost 3 years as a Drill Sargent. Along with countless 12 mile road marches and PT in boots. Or a year as the point man for the SRT (Special Reaction Team = Military SWAT Team). Those memories, along with the associated aches and pains, represent the proudest, most demanding yet exhilarating times of my life. So I decided to display those badges. I do hope to hit the trails soon and earn real Jeep badges. Which I will proudly display right along side these. HOOAH!

Thanks for the Links and Pics! I just ordered a few items from your list. They'll all be here way before my JT pulls into the driveway.

Do you happen to know the centerline distance between your cross rails? I am trying to figure out some solutions to hauling all of my toys... I have cross rails on my GC that I can take off before trading it in, I'd just need to get new attachments. Thinking this could be the best way to haul my SUPs or 10 ft Kayaks if I have the bikes on the back.

Great build - looks awesome! Thanks.
