I currently own a 73 F100, didn't see an option for currently owning a full size
Kidding, the old 70s trucks are about the same size as todays midsize. This got me thinking about my history. I've never owned a full size truck (todays size), but I drive one at work every day (Silverado 2500). As far as trucks, I went Ranger -> S10 -> Ranger -> Ridgeline -> Gladiator, with a bunch of cars sprinkled in between.
My first 4x4 was an '88 Toyota 4Runner. Then I had a '94 Chevy Silverado.
I traded that for my first Jeep which was a '95 Cherokee Sport (XJ) which had some body issues that allowed the carpet to get wet over the winter and come warm/hot weather, it got and smelled sour.
Next one was a '93 Grand Cherokee and I've had many Grand Cherokees over the years including my current '19 GC Ltd. I also have a '20 Gladiator Overland (both built in June '19) and LOVE it.
The Gladiator is my first Jeep Truck but my 8th Jeep. I have owned 12 other trucks before this one with most being full sized. My last truck before the Gladiator was a 2021 GMC Canyon AT4. The Gladiator is good around town performance wise but I am not crazy about it on the interstate because of lack of comfort and power. I will probably go with a fullsize truck in the future when I am no longer exploring the local off road trails and I am already having issues getting the so called off road guy I know to go with me so it might happen soon. I also want to get back in something that has a warranty
Started with a 1998 Ram Quad cab... Dana 88s... 360 cu in. 4x4. 2 tone Amethyst over sand. Fully loaded. Camper shell to match. Paid 15k with 20k miles on it in 2000 when I came back from overseas. LOVED IT. Then... married... traded for her Expedition... she left... not a loss on either. Used a Jimmy and a few others til I could afford my first JKUR in 15... traded this year for the Gladi.... better than the Ram!
Relocated 4 years ago. Before that had 3 4x trucks on the road. Had a total of 5 tagged vehicles at one time.
Sold my 02 2500 Cummins, 84 Ranger And a 1961 M 37 Dodge when I moved. A four door is not for me but I compromised. Most expensive vehicle I ever bought and has more luxury than any I owned. 22 High Altitude.
Previous pickups: 1990 Dakota Sport 4x4 convertible with manual tranny and transfer case, still in the garage. Sport S replaced a clapped out 2002 GMC Sonoma 4-door 4x4 that I completely wore out but liked a lot. Nothing worked anymore but it was a yard work truck anyway; no AC, couldn't control the where the air came out of the heating, no 4x4 anymore. Who decided to use vacuum to control the transfer case and front end? Dumb. Same reason the heater controls failed...transfer case fluid gets sucked into the vacuum system and destroys the controls.
Bought the JT for the manual shift transfer case and transmission, enough with push button 4x4 whether vacuum or electric controlled. A little disappointed that the front end is done electrically but so is my '94 Suburban (Manual transfer case!), '01 Tahoe, and Dakota. I am not sure I am totally pleased with the JT but I am not dissatisfied either. It is a change that I am working through. With the premium price over the Toy or Colorado I may have had higher expectations. Real disappointed now that I have two recalls on my manual transmission. For a first time Jeep buyer that does not impress, never had that sort of stuff with my GM or Chrysler products. Jeep should be tougher than either of those by design.
Enjoying the bigger JT bed than the Sonoma for sure, though. Gotta thank the forum member who posted the bolt size of the pre tapped holes in the bed and where to get tie down rings. 10 tie downs around the bed is great.
I have had a few different trucks, SUVs and Jeeps (and some cars mixed in). I have never owned and have no desire to own a full size truck.
First car was a 1988 Cherokee Chief - manual - used
1994 4Runner - manual - used
1998 TJ Wrangler Sport -manual - new
1997 Land Rover Discovery II - auto - used
1998 Ford Ranger - manual - used
2003 TJ Wrangler X - auto - new
2002 Nissan Frontier - auto - used
2005 TJ Wrangler Willys - auto - used
2011 Tacoma - auto - used
2021 Gladiator - auto - new
Gladiator is my favorite followed by the 2005 Wrangler Willys with the OEM camo seats.
I had Mustangs most of my life. 400+ HP at a minimum. I chose the Gladiator for the 8sp auto, ability to haul, hit the trails, and go topless.
However one of the main reasons was to just SLOW DOWN a bit on the roads. Happy to say the 3.8L made it easy to do lol I Added 35s and now I am really not going anywhere fast these days especially off the line .. Love my JT!
First Jeeps we’re (in order) 1996 XJ, ‘99 XJ,
‘14 Patriot, ‘04 Grand Cherokee 4.0L, now my ‘20 Gladiator
I’ve owned for trucks (in order) ‘98 Silverado, ‘96 F150, ‘99 F150, ‘08 F150 & ‘18 F150… loved my Fords but simple tasks like parking are such a pain and these full size trucks continue to grow with each generation….
I have always wanted a Wrangler but we need a truck so when the Gladiator came out for 2020 I had to have one…
Bought my ‘20 with 53K on it and absolutely love it! Dump runs to landscape for the house to new fridge/dishwasher and washer/dryer. I use this truck more than I did my full size and it’s so cool to be able to haul things with no door/roof on!! Next year will be installing a 3.5” lift with 37s… plus the obvious bumpers and arms and Jeep extras!! Plus this group is incredible with all the knowledge!! Thanks everybody!!
First Jeep but not my first truck!
I've owned mostly old Chevy's. 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1964 with a variety of others.
1971 Toyota Hilux, 1992 Toyota Tacoma
1990 Ford Ranger, 1986 Mazda B series
Very happy with my Diesel Gladiator!
