I have a friend attempting to put Stock Gladiator wheels(mine), onto his 2013 JK. Apparently there is an issue. What I don’t know. Can anyone steer us in the correct direction? Any help is appreciated.

The wheel studs are bigger on the JL/JT, but that should not cause a problem. I know JK wheels work on JL and JT (although the JL backup camera is an issue). Is he using his old lug nuts?

He has both his lugs and the gladiator set.

He needs to use his lug nuts for the proper 1/2 x 20 thread of a JK. Make sure there are no retainer clips on any of the studs that the factory used to retain the brake rotors during assembly of JK's. JK wheels have reliefs machined into the mounting surfaces to accommodate those clips. JL and JT don't use the clips and don't have the reliefs. First photo is a JK wheel. Second is a JT wheel mounting surface.

Would the studs be too long? Just asking because he said that is what his mechanic said, seems doubtful.

I haven't tried it myself. The factory lug nuts are open ended except for the tin cap so if the stud is long enough it will distort the domed end of the tin cap as you tighten it. You could always buy better, solid lug nuts that are longer.

Thanks for the help. I’m pretty sure it’s the retaining clip issue. You would think a shop mechanic could look at that and see it. I’ll check it when I get by his Jeep. I would advise him to buy better JK lug nuts but want to see if we can use his stick ones first.
