I recently bought a new 2023 JT Willys that i am wanting to take on some cool trails in Colorado. I found a couple near Nederland that i have pretty much burnt myself out on. I am new to Colorado and i know there are a bunch out there but i dont want to do anything too crazy being that im running stock atm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, Stock Willys comes with 32" MT tires and i measured 10.3" of ground clearance. Looks like red shocks in the back and dana 44s on the front and rear.

Also, any experience with these tires in snow? Probably not great right?

Nice JTW! I don't know about Colorado off-road trails but you might want to get OnX and the OnX Offroad app for your cell. It will show you off-road areas and if you hunt, all the game units in CO. I have it for AZ only and it is a very good app. You can download off-line maps to your cell in case you go into areas with no cell service.

I have not had good luck with MT tires in snow on pavement, AT tires seem to do much better in my experience. In really deep or wet snow I might see MT tires doing better, but the dry powder we have here seems to favor a tighter tread pattern.

Looks like you are in the Front Range area? How far you willing to drive? Engineer Pass, Imogene, Ophir, Corkscrew/California Pass are all doable in the Ouray area. Mineral Creek should be fine might just need a spotter depending on how frisky you feel.

Hagerman Pass, the Ashcroft side of Taylor Pass, Richmond Hill above Aspen, and Transfer Trail until you get to the obstacle way up above (again, with spotter probably fine) in Glenwood/Aspen area.

Central Mountains there are also quite a few trails that are easy to enjoy as well.

Oh, and Democrat Mountain is easy just lots and lots of rocks and slow going outside of Empire. There is also a lot of trails in that area as well that connect Idaho Springs, Central City, and Black Hawk.

Yes, i am in the Boulder area and i am definitely willing to travel. I was thinking of doing rim rocker trail soon that goes into Utah if it isnt too late in the year already. Engineer Pass looks fun too and its a badge of honor trail. Thanks for all the info! Maybe i will see you out there sometime! :jk:

We use these books a lot when looking for trails. We then check trail status via the usual apps (TrailsOffroad, AllTrails, etc.). You can pick them up on Amazon or any popular backcountry store. There is a Northern book and "Southern" book for Colorado. Also check out the version for Moab.
