The new artwork does not display the API Certification Mark “Starburst” on the front label
  • This indicates that this motor oil is not licensed to bear this mark
The reason it does not show the Starburst logo on the link you reference is because the jug front image is a boilerplate image that lacks any grade info on the front. Pennzoil is actually following API label guidelines of not including the Starburst logo because of that.

I was just getting back to checking out what he was talking about - this makes sense. It's also really hard to believe that that oil, of all, would not have the proper logo, not be API and so on. It wasn't making sense so I wanted to dig into trying to figure out what he was saying.
In short, you beat me to it, now I don't have to dig!

This link goes over the labeling pretty good:

https://pqia.org/2020/05/15/read-the-labels-on-motor-oil-before-you-buy/

It mentions that the Starburst label is not technically required to be on the bottle but that certain manufacturers may require it. Mainly to insure the oil meet ILSAC standards.

Yeah, international standards, and the GF-6 standard (or is it GF-7 by now?)

Good link. I bit more current than a couple I have.
With roll out of the current API SQ, it has become GF-7 ILSAC. Just about all of it deals with improving LSPI and direct injection engines which our Pentastar is not.

That PQIA link may not get updated for GF-7 as they have gone from auditing oils post manufacture at the consumer selling point and doing industry audits at the factory level upstream.
