I gladly paid the $299 Doc fee when I bought in July since I didn't have to go to the DMV during Covid. And when they stated that the DMV's hours were shortened at the time I said "oh well. That's why I paid you the Doc fee."

How many of us have been offered GAP insurance at the time of purchase? Dealers are required to offer it. If you crash and total the vehicle, it covers the depreciation. A co worker drove off the lot with a new car and some one turned left and totaled the 2 hour old car. They lost 5K in the wreck. Food, transportation and housing. The real world holy trinity.

Here is a question... What would you consider to be an acceptable documentation fee?

There is an Orlando dealership that charges $999.00 as a documentation fee, and they try to justify it with a straight face and say people pay it every day.

It's not the same dealership mentioned above. On top of that, they add a $1995 dealership "Value Pkg", and $595.50 in other "fees". It sure seems crazy that they add $3598 to the vehicle price, not including tax, when a reasonable documentation fee would be fine.

Below is an example. The discount would come from using an FCA Control Number.

When I was shopping our Wrangler in 2019, this type fee add ons was pretty standard and I think there is something that allows the doc fee to be this high in Florida. My recollection is they are one of the highest in the country. One of many reasons why I bought out of state.

I am looking at a Gladiator now and I am seeing this same stuff from the Florida dealers.
I find the idea of Nitrogen in the tires on ANY jeep a joke.

Do not trust Greenway Jeep in Orlando, FL.

Representative Wei Guo for Greenway Jeep is not to be trusted.

Just for FYI, did not purchase due to his actions.
Sounds like you bounced twice when they threw you out?

No, unfortunately I was not physically there. It was just really irritating that dealers are still trying so hard to drain the last bit of blood from us...

My regular insurance company has an option to simply cover the actual replacement cost completely, and it's less than $15 per year. GAP at the dealer is a complete and utter ripoff. I had a Wrangler totaled and they actually ended up paying more than we paid for it, because they just looked up the book value and we got a great deal on a year-end model (2013 purchased in late July).

As they should. That's their business, to buy low and sell high. There's nothing wrong with that unless they are doing a bait and switch or fraudulently hiding things. If they give you a price you don't like, there's nothing wrong with that.

There is nothing more frustrating than buying a new car. Dealers are trying to maximize profits regardless of the situation. Its a business like anything else. That being said shopping for a FCA vehicle is probably the worst. I have never seen a decent FCA dealer. For whatever reason they really attract the loons. Maybe they have lower job requirements than other dealers. I was sworn off jeep for 12 years because of the experience I had at several local dealers. Keep in mind that the actual salesperson is probably not making much. So pushing those extra add ons really helps them make a decent amount. The sales guy only make a couple hundred off each sale at best. Some work on only comission. And cars regardless of dealer aren't exactly flying out the door. Most sales now a days are handled online and the buyer just shows up to pick up the rig.

I get the complaint about Greenway. I matched them up against the competitors here in Orlando. For a lease on an identical vehicle at all 3 dealers. 1 came in just under at 360 a month, one at $380 a month, and Greenway came in at $470. Same credit rating, miles, down payment, and MSRP. Obviously, I did not go with Greenway.

I'm actively shopping in the Orlando market right now, had a deal pretty close to locked in with Jerry-Ulm and found out on top of there $999 dealer fee they also tack on another $1600 for nitrogen/windshield tint strip/tracking device. I'm actually pretty close to picking up a CPO from Greenway, not sure how i feel about the leveling kit installed on the one in stock there.

Gap insurance is for those times when you are rolling negative equity over to your new vehicle purchase. Your friend needs to replace his insurance company. A good policy will cover full vehicle replacement on a new car that is wrecked. It will not pay off the loan, it just replaces the value of the vehicle. Now days a lot of people are trading in a car for less that they owe, the dealer then rolls that negative equity into the new vehicle loan. I have seen people roll 15K in negative equity into a car deal. If they wreck the car and don't have gap, they will be paying off that car for a while before they can replace it.

I got my 2015 JK from them and they paid me for the last payments remaining on a previous lease to get me into the JK and had a great overall experience. This was late 2014 though and things may have changed. The salesman I worked with isn't there anymore. My JT I got at the New Smyrna dealer because availability of color and options and had a great experience too. This was while they were heavily discounted off of MSRP months back though.
