I just got an email trying to sell me unlimited wifi for $15/month. Is this a good deal? Anyone else negotiate something less? We have unlimited LTE with Verizon on our phones, so in reality, would this be redundant? What would be a good reason to have wifi in the jeep?

I have never seen a reason for wifi in vehicles but the only somewhat acceptable answer anyone has ever given me is so that their kids can have internet access on their tablets or whatever when they are out on the road without having to get them setup with phones. My old boss swears it saved his sanity on a big road trip but for a single guy like me who does tech for a living I need wifi in my car as badly as I need to be shot. I guess if I was on the road constantly and needed vpn access for my laptop would be the only way I could justify it since verizon charges like $10 a month for hotspot on their phones.

My guess would be out camping in Baja with a large group. WiFi for calling via WhatsApp vs. using a satellite phone or not having to purchase a $5/day international 500mb/day package add-on with Verizon. If having to call for a tow truck while without cellphone converage $15 looks like a bargain.

Except that the Uconnect system relies on the cell phone network for remote control and WiFi hotspot capabilities.

That's exactly my point. People are under the impression that this just works "everywhere" but it is no different than onstar and is reliant upon the AT&T cellular data network. So when you are in the woods, desert, etc if your phone doesn't work more than likely the jeep won't work to cover the gap.
