Rugged Radios is literally half a block away from my office, but I wanted to get options and suggestions. Don't need anything fancy. Just something that will sound clear and have some decent range while offroad in a group.

rugged radio just sells overpriced CCR. IF you want GMRS there are a few better options. Remember over 2 watts you need a license.

They are currently under investigation from the FCC. I would not mess with them right now. Standard GMRS is better.

Big fan of the BaoFeng. Didn't even move the CB over from my last truck. These are way easier, cheaper and have plenty of range for basic wheeling

What frequencies are you using them on though? You need a license for the ham bands. Technically it isn't GMRS certified, but if you have a GMRS license nobody will care or notice there if you stay on those bands and follow the rules for GMRS

So a simple search for "GMRS HAND HELD radio 2 watts" should yield me what I am in search of? Thank you.

There's no doubt that a ham license brings with it some benefits. Knowledge is inherently valuable. I had the Yaesu FTA550L which works great for me. The only thing that it doesn't have is GPS. I mock merely because a ham radio for a non-ham is probably the most expensive option. The education, fees, and endless training needed to maintain the skill simply aren't palatable for most people.

I've been watching this dude a lot lately. Informative, and his youtube shtick is humorous.
