Hey all, I'm trying to think of a solution for helping to remove the hard top. All the DIYs I've seen are dependent on having an overhead hoist built into the garage rafters. I don't have a garage so I'm looking for some ideas or DIY plans for a portable hoist. Those without a garage, what's your solution?

Have you tried just picking it up and taking it off? It's not that heavy. I have a garage, but it's not tall enough for a hoist.

This is what I did with my old JK and JL. Had to do it by myself. Get in the trunk jimmy it off and then straight arm it up and squat and crawl out through the 'rear' window

I had a set of PVC pipe poles used for my kids volleyball ball net, some extra 4in. PVC pipe and a wench from Harbor Freight. Bought some hardware and 90 degree PVC elbows from Lowes. I have been waiting for good weather and time to remove the top. I placed at least a 75 lb. load on it, no problem. I did reinforce the horizonal PVC pipe where I installed the eye bolt with pulley. Will post when I have the top off.

It can be lifted without any “Assitance”. Helps if you have a tonneau cover.
